What if there was an FA Cup for College Football? - ROUND 5 - NO NEW ENTRANTS the FINAL 128 Battle and 64 survive!

Welcome back! If you don’t know what is happening here, it is something ridiculous, and I really hope you enjoy it. If you missed Rounds 1-4 of the Sickos Committee College Football FA Cup, I have linked them for you here below.

Now that you’re caught up

Here is the order of the Rounds below:

  • Round 1 - 504 Teams Enter = 252 Teams Advance.

  • Round 2 - 252 Winners From Round 1 + 4 New Entrants = 128 Teams Advance

  • Round 3 - 128 Winners From Round 2 + 128 New Entrants = 128 Teams Advance

  • Round 4 - 128 Winners from Round 3 + 128 New Entrants = 128 Teams Advance

  • Round 5 - 128 Winners from Round 4 = 64 Teams Advance (WE ARE HERE, OH SO MUCH LEFT TO GO BUT EVERY ONE HAS PLAYED AT LEAST ONE GAME)

  • Round 6 - 64 Winners from Round 5 = 32 Teams Advance

  • Round 7 - 32 Winners from Round 6 = 16 Teams Advance

  • 16 Team Bracket is Set for the Final Path to the College Football FA Cup

  • Round 8 - 16 Winners from Round 7 = 8 Teams Advance to the Quarterfinals

  • Round 9 - 8 Winners from Round 8 = 4 Teams Advance to the Semifinals

  • Round 10 - 4 Winners from Round 9 = 2 Teams Advance to the Championship

  • Round 11 - College Football FA Cup Final played at the Independence Bowl

Now, for Round 1, we did a completely random draw for the winners with our random score generator. We wanted some element of whimsy mixed with some chaos for Round 1. We really don’t know what teams would take this seriously. And this could technically apply for all rounds. We really don’t know what teams would take this seriously. And this could technically apply for all rounds.

  • Would they let the backups start?

  • Try to rest all their star players for this tourney?

  • Would they go with a heavily rotated squad, as they sometimes do in England?

In our minds, this College Football FA Cup is going on alongside the regular season. For Round 2, we slightly tweaked things using the SP+ and make the favorites ever so slightly favored in the random score generator. (Hopefully you didn’t notice it.) Meaning, we think the longer the tourney goes on, more and more teams will actually be taking it seriously.

However, a Round 3 team in FCS or FBS may prioritize their conference or winning their games to try to make the FCS Playoffs or a bowl game at 6-6. We really don’t know what a payout would be for advancing each round here because this is completely hypothetical where everything is made up and the scores don’t matter (yeah, right, y'all still kind of take this seriously). It is really a gigantic waste of my time, but it's the offseason, and I have to keep busy somehow, or I would likely go insane.

In Round 4; we added all the remaining top teams in Division I. We had a remaining 11 Cinderella teams (ranked 500 or worse). EVERY TEAM IS IN A RANDOM DRAW AND THERE ARE NO SEEDS, just like the FA Cup.

We are here in Round 5 now. Every team has at least one game left. The Cinderellas are disappearing quickly and very few remain. Everyone now seems to be going all in for the Cup. Can any of our Cinderellas survive against all odds??

ROUND 5 - NO NEW ENTRANTS the FINAL 128 Battle and 64 survive!

We are so close to a normal 64 team bracket. One more round to go!

Also, remember the big schools could be playing away at the smaller schools, just like in the FA CUP!

Bracket 1 of 8, WINGATE WITH THE WIN, WE GOT A D2 TEAM STILL ALIVE

BEVEL WINGATE

Bracket 2 of 8, Southern Arkansas takes out a Cinderella but then becomes a Cinderella? KUTZTOWN WITH AN UPSET ON UTAH

KUTZTOWN WITH THE PSAC TITLE, MORE DII MOVING ON

Bracket 3 of 8, Charleston Southern, with basically our only upset of the bracket. Poor Brockport, having to face Boise.

Bracket 4 of 8, ULM is gone, FIU and Toledo with HUGE OT WINS to take out Big Ten Rivals Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Bracket 5 of 8, No crazy upsets here but Idaho nearly beat Clemson losing in OT. Saginaw Valley moving on is quite awesome.

Saginaw Valley State Stadium

Bracket 6 of 8, I spit out my drink when I saw the Alabama and Bowdoin score. Nice win for Southern Illinois. HUGE WIN FOR GARDNER-WEBB!! THEY TAKE OUT THE CAJUNS!!

Gardner-Webb Bevel!

Bracket 7 of 8, East Stroudsburg with a win but that was a 200 and higher match. Not real upsets here.

a tailgate of East Stroudsburg

Bracket 8 of 8, I really hope you don’t notice Eastern Michigan’s win and forgetting to move them over. WEST GEORGIA AND VILLANOVA with HUGE UPSET WINS!!!

Cinderellas Remaining - Teams Ranked 200 & Lower

  • 290 Charleston Southern - Have played all 5 Rounds

    • Only Team remaining from Round 1
