What if there was an FA Cup for College Football? - ROUND 2 - 4 New Teams Enter, 256 Teams Battle and 128 survive!
Welcome back! If you don’t know what is happening here, it is something ridiculous, and I really hope you enjoy it. If you missed Round 1 of the Sickos Committee College Football FA Cup, I have linked it for you here below.
In the first version of this, I asked you to suspend all disbelief immediately. I needed you to dismiss any notions that this would never happen and just go with me on this journey. This is a fantasy college football world, and I wanted you along for the ride. So make sure you check your notions of realness at the door.
Here was how we broke it down for the 764 teams in the College Football FA Cup. Each round draw will be a random draw until we set a hard bracket with the final 16 teams. So remember when you saw teams advance, and it appeared they would meet up in the next round?? Yeah, that will not happen. Everyone is thrown back into a pot until the Round of 16.
Here is the order of the Rounds below:
Round 1 - 504 Teams Enter = 252 Teams Advance.
Round 2 - 252 Winners From Round 1 + 4 New Entrants = 128 Teams Advance (WE ARE HERE, OH SO MUCH LEFT TO GO)
Round 3 - 128 Winners From Round 2 + 128 New Entrants = 128 Teams Advance
Round 4 - 128 Winners from Round 3 + 128 New Entrants = 128 Teams Advance
Round 5 - 128 Winners from Round 4 = 64 Teams Advance
Round 6 - 64 Winners from Round 5 = 32 Teams Advance
Round 7 - 32 Winners from Round 6 = 16 Teams Advance
16 Team Bracket is Set for the Final Path to the College Football FA Cup
Round 8 - 16 Winners from Round 7 = 8 Teams Advance to the Quarterfinals
Round 9 - 8 Winners from Round 8 = 4 Teams Advance to the Semifinals
Round 10 - 4 Winners from Round 9 = 2 Teams Advance to the Championship
Round 11 - College Football FA Cup Final played at the Independence Bowl
Now, for Round 1, we did a completely random draw for the winners with our random score generator. We wanted some element of whimsy mixed with some chaos for Round 1. We really don’t know what teams would take this seriously.
Would they let the backups start?
Try to rest all their star players for this tourney?
Would they go with a heavily rotated squad, as they sometimes do in England?
In our minds, this College Football FA Cup is going on alongside the regular season. Does a 54-point favorite in SP+ let all their backups play all game, and are they better than a DIII or NAIA team? That is why we chose to do the random score generator. For Round 2, we’re going to slightly tweak things using the SP+ and make the favorites ever so slightly favored in the random score generator, and then dial it up a little bit for each following round. (Hopefully you won’t even notice it.) Meaning, we think the longer the tourney goes on, more and more teams will actually be taking it seriously. Well, let’s get to it!
ROUND 2 - 4 new entrants, 256 teams battle and 128 teams survive!
Help, I gotta make the brackets again

Bracket 1 of 16, nothing too crazy here, the teams in the 700s got demolished by teams in the 300s

Bracket 2 of 16, crazy we had a Concord vs Concordia match-up here.

Beveled the logo for Concordia for winning the Concord Clash

Bracket 3 of 16, I cannot tell you how bummed I am the Delta State Fighting Okra lost. I am distraught.

Here is a picture of the Fighting Okra holing a baby alligator. Ok, that makes me feel a little bit better.

Bracket 4 out of 16, TWO 700+ SEEDS MOVE ON, HUGE UPSETS

THE EUREKA RED DEVILS!! BEVELED!

Bracket 5 of 16, We lost the Camels too… Roll Humps, but Sul Ross State moves on!

It’s in Alpine Texas in the middle of nowhere West Texas! Go Lobos!

Bracket 6 out of 16, NOOOOOO THE HARDROCKERS GO DOWN TO PLYMOUTH STATE

South Dakota School of Mines Stadium, yes you can tailgate and watch the game at the same time

Bracket 7 out of 16, LIKE I SAID, DON’T LET SEWANEE GET HOT!!

I feel like we owe that 1899 Sewanee Team a bevel

Bracket 8 out of 16, Halfway Point doesn’t feel that bad this time. Also, LINCOLN (CA) THE TEAM WITHOUT A HOME FIELD

Bracket 9 out of 16, MILIKIN!! The Alma Mater of Army Coach Jeff Monken!

Bracket 10 out of 16, St. Olaf advances again! The Alma mater of the Sickos Cartoonist Ward Sutton! They play for the most Sickos trophy in a rivalry game as seen below.

Bracket 11 out of 16, TWO 745 AND HIGHER TEAMS MOVE ON. Totally had a run on names Calvin, Hiram and Luther.

The Luther Norse Stadium

Bracket 12 out of 16, NOOOOOO NOT THE PITT STATE GORILLAS, BUT THE GENTS OF CENTENARY MOVE ON. This Bracket is rollercoaster of emotions.

Southern Virginia’s Football Stadium - Knight Stadium

Bracket 13 out of 16, sheesh a 74-2 score here.

Bracket 14 out of 16, We had a presidential showdown and the 14th President Franklin Pierce comes out on top.

Had to bevel it for winning the Presidential battle over Roosevelt

Bracket 15 out of 16, OBERLIN AGAIN!!!

Sweet helmets for the Oberlin Yeoman

Bracket 16 out of 16, WE ARE DONE

Oklahoma Panhandle State beveled
Now remember, the seeding does not matter for Round 3! All the winners will get thrown into a pot and there is a random draw again!
