As we wrote previously, the Sickos Committee, didn’t start publicly until 2021. We did exist in 2020, but just in a Discord server which is now a part of our Patreon for $5 per month. So, we have only named five Sickos National Champions:

  • 2020 - Michigan (internally within our Discord, but our first tweet was this)

  • 2021 - Nebraska

  • 2022 - Iowa

  • 2023 - Iowa

  • 2024 - Florida State

  • 2025 - Penn State

We have started the spreadsheet to name retroactive national champions inside our Discord already. But I realized as Commish, there was one element remaining to help us determine the retroactive national champions…

I previously wrote for you to submit suggestions to help determine Retroactive Sickos National Champions from 1978-2019. Here below.

So we gathered the Nominees from you and we just recorded a podcast that is out today. Towards the back half of the episode we sorted and discussed the 19 Nominees. Also, the form is still open to keep nominating but we have finished the 2017 Process here.

  • Nebraska (4-8)

  • Akron (7-7)

During the podcast episode, we discussed all the nominees and settled on a Top 5.

We will give you a little summary of each team and have you cast your ballot for the Sickos National Champion. We will close the poll before our podcast episode on Sunday Night at 9pm CT and crown the 2017 Sickos National Champion when the episode comes out on Tuesday April 28th. We will do this likely for each year if possible this offseason if we get enough participation from you!

THE TOP 5 CANDIDATES FOR THE 2017 SICKOS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Keep in mind, we normally crown the National Champ before all the Bowl Games, so if possible, please factor in that with your vote but we understand it is a retroactive thing so it is pretty tough.

2017 TENNESSEE VOLUNTEERS (4-8)

  • Debut of the Tennessee Trash Can

  • Butch Jones fired after the 10th game of the year, Interim Coach Brady Hoke

  • Finished winless in the SEC and were the first team in Tennessee's football history to lose eight games in a season, as well as the first to not win an SEC game since becoming a charter member of the conference in 1932.

  • Insane coaching search took place, they protested Greg Schiano’s potential hirting after the season but before Championship week. Led to the Athletic Director being fired and Phil Fulmer being hired as AD.

  • Finally hired Head Coach Jeremy Pruitt.

  • Their schedule below.

2017 UCF KNIGHTS (13-0)

  • That’s right, Scott Frost went undefeated.

  • Weird schedule due to Hurricane delays.

  • Won the War on I-4 in crazy fashion.

  • Won the American Conference over Memphis 62-55.

  • Left out of the College Football Playoff.

  • Yes, they beat Auburn in the Peach Bowl but our normal Sickos Poll would have been completed after Championship Week.
