Why haven't these teams played yet?? Part 3 of ???
This is Part 3 of another off-season installment exploring the history of college football and the Commish wish-casting some more weirdness into college football. After all, this is what we do here at the Sickos Committee.
Throughout the history of the nearly or over 150 years of college football, we’d like to think nearly every Power 5 team has played each other at least once in their history. Well, we know that is not the case. The reasons all of these teams have never played vary on a case by case basis.
We want to highlight some match-ups that have never happened and then break down why we want the game to happen. Again, none of this makes sense or is intended to make sense but let’s explore this in a however many part journey. Also, we want these games to be a home and home series, none of that neutral site nonsense but we will explore a potential bowl match-up.

LSU vs Wazzu
Distance between Schools: 2,368 miles, a 34 hour road trip that will take you from below sea level through the Rocky Mountains
Possible Bowl Tie-ins: CFP, NY6, SRS Distribution Las Vegas Bowl, Union Home Mortgage Gasparilla Bowl
Fan Base Clash or Match: Well, we know they both match in drinking prowess and maybe that is all you need to know here. If they can drink together, I feel like its an overall match. Also, I feel like whatever city this game would be played in would have to send in alcohol reinforcements to make sure the towns would not be drunk dry.
Sickos Potential Rating: 8 out of 5. These games would either need to be a night game in Baton Rouge or a Pac 12 After Dark masterpiece in Pullman. Either one could likely get off the rails quickly and just become an insane game.
Sickos Urgency Rating: 8 out of 5. After LSU’s Jello shot dominance in Omaha at the College World Series, we need to see LSU against a team’s fan base that can hang with them. We need this one as soon as possible but that Pac-12 TV deal needs to get finished first…
South Carolina vs Cal
Distance between Schools: 2,689 miles. A 39 hour drive with the opportunity to get some kicks on Route 66 for a good portion of the drive.
Possible Bowl Tie-ins: CFP, NY6, SRS Distribution Las Vegas Bowl, Union Home Mortgage Gasparilla Bowl
Fan Base Clash or Match: Big time clash here. South Carolina and Northern California. Probably one of the biggest clashes we could have in all of college football.
Sickos Potential Rating: 10 out of 5. A night game in Columbia is one of the most underrated crazy college football atmosphere. Or you got Pac-12 after Dark here in Berkeley. Both of these teams tend to play some weird games and I couldn’t tell you how it’d go nearly almost every single year.
Sickos Urgency Rating: 5 out of 5. It’s a weird game match-up and it doesn’t really make any sense for these two schools to play. Of course this is why we want them to play.
Miami vs Iowa State
Distance between Schools: 1,586 miles. About a 23 hour drive if you decide to take the Florida Turnpike.
Possible Bowl Tie-ins: CFP, NY6, Pop-Tarts Bowl, SERVPRO First Responder Bowl
Fan Base Clash or Match: Big time clash here. Miami, Florida and Ames, Iowa. Probably one of the biggest clashes we could have in all of college football.
Sickos Potential Rating: 10 out of 5. I have absolutely no idea what to expect if these two teams played and neither should you.
Sickos Urgency Rating: 10 out of 5. We need all the weather based phenomenons to play each other. Strictly off of the nicknames alone. Just hearing the commentator saying its the Cyclones vs the Hurricanes is music to my weather nerd ears. Make it happen soon.
Oklahoma State vs Clemson
Distance between Schools: 979 miles, 14 hours and about 15 minutes of driving.
Possible Bowl Tie-ins: CFP, NY6, Pop-Tarts Bowl, SERVPRO First Responder Bowl
Fan Base Clash or Match: I think its a clash here. Both schools are basically tiny towns themselves but one is in the middle of Oklahoma and one is nestled deep in the Southeast. However, color-wise its a close match in Oranges. Guess which one is which.
Sickos Potential Rating: 3.5 out of 5. I don’t see too much Sickos stuff happening here in this game. However, it’d be great if either Mike Gundy or Dabo Swinney are upset after the game. It’d be a must see press conference.
Sickos Urgency Rating: 2 out of 5. This one we don’t really need to happen right away. This feels like a bowl game that takes place in Florida eventually anyway.
Purdue vs Western Kentucky
Distance between Schools: 300 miles. 4 1/2 hour drive.
Possible Bowl Tie-ins: CFP, NY6. No other bowl ties for CUSA & the Big Ten.
Fan Base Clash or Match: I am really not sure here. Maybe a match or clash? You’ve got two smaller cities with the Universities separated by two larger cities Indianapolis & Louisville. Also, they are basically state neighbors and normally that spices things up a little. Would say slight edge to clash.
Sickos Potential Rating: 13 out of 5. Western Kentucky is historically feisty when they play someone in the Power 5. The Hilltoppers nearly took down Indiana last year and probably should have. Purdue is normally a giant killer but sometimes they tend to play down to the level of their opponent. This game has wildness all over it and we’d love to watch it.
Sickos Urgency Rating: 50 out of 5. GIVE US PURDUE PETE AND BIG RED ON THE SIDELINES RIGHT NOW. THE MASCOT MATCH-UP WE ALL NEED!!! PLEASE!!!
