Why haven't these teams played yet?? Part 2 of ???
This is Part 2 of another off-season installment exploring the history of college football and the Commish wish-casting some more weirdness into college football. After all, this is what we do here at the Sickos Committee.
Throughout the history of the nearly or over 150 years of college football, we’d like to think nearly every Power 5 team has played each other at least once in their history. Well, we know that is not the case. The reasons all of these teams have never played vary on a case by case basis.
We want to highlight some match-ups that have never happened and then break down why we want the game to happen. Again, none of this makes sense or is intended to make sense but let’s explore this in a however many part journey. Also, we want these games to be a home and home series, none of that neutral site nonsense but we will explore a potential bowl match-up.
(Part 1 - Why haven't these teams played yet Part 1)
Texas vs Florida State

Distance between Schools: 873 miles, about a 12 hour and 45 minute drive.
Possible Bowl Tie-ins: CFP, NY6, or Pop-Tart Bowl for 2023. The bowl match-ups will likely change next year.
Fan Base Clash or Match: It feels like a clash. They both have grand expectations every year but Florida and Texas living are a bit different. Also, their fan bases are known for a little bit of overreacting. So, they match in some ways but overall a clash, we think.
Sickos Potential Rating: 3.5 out of 5. We’re likely due for some magical crowd shots here in this game. We could get a happy or sad Matthew McConaughey. Good opportunity for some high quality horns down throwing too.
Sickos Urgency Rating: 1 out of 5. We don’t immediately need this game and it feels like it will inevitably happen sooner or later, especially with the expanded playoff and conference changes coming. Really, it would likely wind up being one of those helmet brand neutral site games to kickoff the season.
Arkansas vs West Virginia

Distance between Schools: 965 miles and about an 14 1/2 hour drive.
Possible Bowl Tie-ins: CFP, NY6, TaxAct Texas Bowl or AutoZone Liberty Bowl.
Fan Base Clash or Match: Leaning match here. We’d likely get a lot of camouflage gear here in the stands. Also, both fan bases know how to have a good time tailgating. We think it would be a great atmosphere for a game.
Sickos Potential Rating: 7 out of 5. This has some weird energy surrounding this potential game and we’re here for it. A little bit of moonshine and mashed potatoes at the tailgate too.
Sickos Urgency Rating: 7 out of 5. HOGS AND EERS. We need this one on a spiritual level. Give us a night game in either stadium and something weird is bound to happen.
Auburn vs Pitt

Distance between Schools: 792 Miles, about a 12 hours and 15 minute drive.
Possible Bowl Tie-ins: CFP, NY6, ReliaQuest Bowl, TaxSlayer Gator Bowl, Union Home Mortgage Gasparilla Bowl, TicketSmarter Birmingham Bowl, SERVPRO First Responder Bowl. 2024 - add in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl.
Fan Base Clash or Match: This one is funny because one of our podcast hosts is a Pitt and Auburn fan due to her parents and the school she attended. But we’d have to think its an overall clash. The Yinzer accent vs an Alabama accent don’t tend to go well together, unlike fries and coleslaw on a sandwich.
Sickos Potential Rating: 11 out of 5. The chaotic energy of both teams and fan bases make this prime for Sickos potential. The Cathedral of Learning vs Auburn Jesus.
Sickos Urgency Rating: 11 out of 5. This feels like an Gator or Birmingham Bowl that has happened already but it hasn’t. These two are some of the most online fan bases known to college football, the chaos this game would bring on Twitter would be immense and we love the chaos!! BRING IT ON!
Baylor vs Rutgers

Distance between Schools: 1,618 miles. Let’s call it about a little under a 24 hour drive.
Possible Bowl Tie-ins: CFP, NY6, Guaranteed Rate Bowl.
Fan Base Clash or Match: Oh what a Clash. Piscataway, New Jersey vs Waco, Texas. Chip & Joanna vs the Cake Boss. Fixer Upper vs the Real Housewives of New Jersey.
Sickos Potential Rating: 5 out of 5. This game happening doesn’t make sense for either team which is why it’s on our list. This feels like a weird early in the season schedule game or that strange Friday Night game on FS1.
Sickos Urgency Rating: 5 out of 5. Schedule it already. With the expansion of the College Football playoff coming, both schools need wins over Power 5 opponents to be considered… right? Dave Aranda could have some Taylor Ham or Pork Roll and Greg Schiano could eat some Texas BBQ. It’d be great viewing for the Sickos Committee either way.
South Carolina vs Oregon State

Distance between Schools: 2,874 miles. A short hop, skip and a jump of a 42 hour drive.
Possible Bowl Tie-ins: CFP, NY6, SRS Distribution Las Vegas Bowl, Union Home Mortgage Gasparilla Bowl (This would be a Tampa as hell match-up)
Fan Base Clash or Match: Match. See hats below.

Sickos Potential Rating: 69 out of 5. Could I really rate it anything else? The internet would meme the game to death and rightfully so. The multitudes of fans not associated at all with either team showing up with their Beavers and Cocks hats pulled from the deep recesses of their closest they bought 20 years ago because they thought it was funny to buy a hat with those words on it. Everyone would revert to a Junior High sense of humor and it’d be a unifying experience. News media would likely lean into this giving some incredible headlines. Also, we’d likely get some unforgettable headlines when someone goes a little bit too far. It’d be a magical match-up and I would hope we’d all treasure.
Sickos Urgency Rating: ??? out of 5. Honestly, I don’t know how bad we want this game. All of the things we mentioned previously in this post would mean we’d want this game and it seems like an absolute no-brainer to play this game immediately. Once the game starts we’d get Bucky the Beaver with a turnover chainsaw and then Sir Spur aka Cock Commander on the other sideline. It’d be so great and feel like the highest of highs we could experience. However, part of me worries it’d become just a normal football game. Would the luster of the Beavers vs Cocks match-up fade somewhat because they are actually playing a game?? Would this match-up be better left not played because once it happens, the novelty of the nickname match-up would wear off?? How would the announcers treat this game?? Would they be in on the jokes or would they treat it as another game?? Would we as college football fans be flying too close to the sun and we’d ultimately flame out?? I didn’t realize I would trigger an existential crisis in myself pondering an Oregon State vs South Carolina football game. Am I overthinking this too much?? Maybe or maybe not…
