I know the World Cup is still ongoing, but the College Football season is sneaking up on us, and I, Commish, need some help.

When this Sickos Committee thing started, I couldn’t dream it would be something that has taken off like this ever? It’s given me and the rest of the Committee opportunities in our favorite sport we could not have ever seen coming. Doing the Sickos Committee store and Patreon, we have earned a little bit of money that basically helps us keep the things we like to make coming regularly in our spare time and travel to games from time to time. Ideally, I’d love to do this full-time, but with the media landscape the way it is, it’s hard to pull off.

That being said, I have been able to travel to some fascinating places in college football. I normally get one huge trip each year to travel to a stadium to go see a game. The past few years, I went to Idaho State to go see Holt Arena, then the next year to see Northern Arizona’s Walkup Skydome, and last year, I made the pilgrimage to Idaho to see the Kibbie Dome and even got on the roof. I basically like to think I conquered all the Big Sky Conference domes. I loved seeing unique domes in different landscapes I had never been to before. Going to college football domes has become a thing for me now. There aren’t that many in the sport and the ones that exist are unique and aren’t your standard dome you’d see in the NFL.

First let me clarify, I live in San Antonio, Texas, and have been to the Alamodome for a UTSA game many times, along with the Alamo Bowl. However, there are a few domes remaining in areas of the country I have not been to. After going to the Kibbie Dome, I am kind of at a loss for what to do next dome-wise. Just drawing a blank after Kibbie, which is understandable. How do you top that? I am stuck on my next decision, just like me being unable to decide what the hell I want for dinner tonight.

So, what I am going to do here is let you, the Committee, tell me what dome to go to next. I will break down my potential travel routes to the Domed Destinations and let you help guide me to my next Domed adventure.

(Disclaimer: I just got a new job, so this may not happen till 2027, but I will do my best to make it happen this year in the 2026 season. Also, if a team wins, I may have to change this due to lining up help for the two kids and fitting into travel plans, as there are many moving parts. I will do my best to honor your decision.)

I am going to break down the domed candidates here and then I will link a Google Form at the end to have you vote.

Some Dakota Dome Stats:

For me, this appears to be one of the easiest remaining FCS domes for me to get to. I would need to catch a flight from San Antonio to Omaha. From a quick search, I would likely have to stop in Houston, Dallas, or Denver to get to Omaha in about 4 hours of flying. One added bonus: I could meet up with the Corn Correspondent Andy in Omaha, and we’d make the two-hour drive to Vermilion, South Dakota, for the game. I do like staying in the city for the game, though.

Some added things here: I have never been in Nebraska or South Dakota. So these would be firsts for me. As for food in the region? I have no idea what would be good to eat there, but the Corn Correspondent would help. Also, I think all of our South Dakota State fans would vote against me traveling here. Very solid football team, cool mascot, two new states marked off for me, and I’d have another Committee member with me. A bunch of positives for this one for sure.

UNI Dome Stats:

This would be about as easy as the trip to the Dakota Dome. I would have two options to fly into. I could fly into Omaha and then make about a four-hour drive to Cedar Falls, Iowa. Or I could fly into Des Moines, which would be about the same flight time and have the same connection options from Houston or Dallas. The Corn Correspondent I think would join me on this one too. Especially if I do the drive from Omaha. Then two hours of driving to Cedar Falls; I could stop in Ames on the way too. 

Some added things here: I have never been in Iowa. So these would be a first for me. As for food in the region? I have no idea what would be good to eat there, but the Corn Correspondent would help, and maybe I could try some of that gas station breakfast pizza. I think if the renovation is done, it would be cool to get to see this in person. So for me, breakfast pizza and a new, awesome, renovated dome.

Alerus Center Stats:

This trip would be quite Sickos as I would need to fly into Fargo, North Dakota, and then drive about two hours north to Grand Forks. Like, hey, sorry North Dakota State, I am not here for you; I am going further north, but I must fly into the city you are based in. The flight times here for me are a bit longer too. I could get there in about five hours, but the return flights could take up to eight hours of traveling. Pending on where I would need to stop, either Minneapolis or Dallas.

I don’t think I could commit the Corn Correspondent to meet me in Fargo via driving, as it is a six-hour drive from Omaha. We could get a flight for him, or he could do the Midwest meme thing of like six hours of driving; that’s nothing. I’ve never been to North Dakota. I could cross the border over the Red River to Minnesota in Moorhead to check that one off for me too. There is a possibility of doing a double here for North Dakota State and North Dakota, but the schedule would have to work out for that to happen. Also, I have no idea what sort of food delicacies I could get into here. So I would mark off two states I have never been to and see potentially two games, but I may be by myself on this trip. One final note, directly adjacent to the Alerus Center is a large hotel and waterpark complex called the Canad Inns Destination Center. I could go to an indoor waterpark, if open, in North Dakota. Just a wild sentence to type.

Superior Dome Stats

I think this is the most fitting encore to the Kibbie Dome. However, the travel would be the most difficult for me to get here. This would likely need to be planned for 2027, but I think I could sneak this in for 2026. Travel time via flight would be San Antonio to Milwaukee, likely stopping in Dallas or Houston like all the other flights. The same basic flight time would range from four hours to five hours.

However, the hard part for this one would be the drive from Milwaukee. It's about 300 miles of driving, which would be about five hours. So after five hours of flying, I would then need to drive five hours just to get to Marquette, Michigan. I really like to do this as a fly-in on Friday and then come back on Sunday. This would likely need another day for driving. Either on the way back for the flight or the travel getting there. Big Sky Brigit has offered to join me on this one as she would not trust my southern self to drive in this area. I don’t know her schedule either so that’s another thing we’d have to plan. Our Canadian Correspondent Joey said it’s a seven or eight hour drive here and he may make the trip from Thunder Bay.

As for the stadium, the world’s largest wooden dome is attractive enough. I have never been to Wisconsin or Michigan. It would be incredibly Sickos my first trip to Michigan were to the Upper Peninsula. No idea what the weather would be like and who knows if the gales of November would come early.
