As we wrote previously, the Sickos Committee, didn’t start publicly until 2021. We did exist in 2020, but just in a Discord server which is now a part of our Patreon for $5 per month. So, we have only named five Sickos National Champions:
2020 - Michigan (internally within our Discord, but our first tweet was this)
2021 - Nebraska
2022 - Iowa
2023 - Iowa
2024 - Florida State
2025 - Penn State
We just named UCF the Retroactive Sickos National Champions for 2017 and Northwestern for 1981. And we’re continuing to try to name more retroactive champions through the offseason.

Now, we got to go back in time, probably to a time we remember if you are old like Commish or maybe you were not alive for this season at all.

We will give you a little summary of each Top 5 team and have you cast your ballot for the Sickos National Champion. We will close the poll before our podcast episode on Sunday Night May 17th at 9pm CT and crown the 1994 Sickos National Champion when the episode comes out on Tuesday May 19th. We will continue to this for each year this offseason if we get enough participation from you!
THE TOP 5 CANDIDATES FOR THE 1994 SICKOS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
Keep in mind, we normally crown the National Champ before all the Bowl Games, so if possible, please factor in that with your vote but we understand it is a retroactive thing so it is pretty tough but try.
THE ENTIRE 1994 SOUTHWEST CONFERENCE
The Southwest conference finished in a 5-Way tie for the championship and we’re nominating the entire conference for the Sickos National Championship here.
Mainly because Texas A&M was on probation due to NCAA violations. The Aggies finished 10-0-1 with their only blemish was to 1-9-1 SMU with a 21-21 tie. The Aggies were ineligible for the conference title and a bowl game.
The Five Way Championship went to Texas Tech, Rice, Texas, TCU and Baylor.
Texas Tech finished 6-6 BUT they got to go to the Cotton Bowl because they had the longest time since going to the Cotton Bowl! Congrats Red Raiders! They had the honor of losing to USC 55-14. But hey you beat Texas 33 to 9!! You played Houston in the Alamodome this year for some reason. You had three Defensive TDS and 1 Punt Return TD. You had 14 TD passes and 8 INTs.
Rice finished 5-6, the only party who was under .500 but still won the Conference title. RICE BEAT TEXAS and this remains the last time the Owls did it. They only had a +3 Point Differential. 18.7 ppg for and 18.5 ppg against. They lost to 1-10 Tulane 15-13, where the Green Wave kicked 5 field goals to win. Threw 10 TDs and 9 INTs on the year.
Texas finished 8-4 on the year with losses to Rice, Texas Tech and A&M. But they beat future coach Mack Brown’s North Carolina in the bowl game that year too.
Baylor finished 7-5. They through 11 TD passes and 13 INTs. The Bears finished the year like this, Win Win, Loss Loss, Win Win, Loss Loss. The Final loss was a 10-3 loss to Wazzu in the Alamo Bowl.
TCU also finished 7-5. The Horned Frogs beat the bad or average teams in the conference, Houston, Rice, SMU and Texas Tech. They lost to the good teams, Baylor, Texas and A&M. They also survived a 2 point win over 1-10 Tulane, 30-28.
Houston finished 1-6 in conference, with their only win over SMU and 1-10 overall.
SMU finished 0-6-1 in conference and 1-9-1 overall.
Yeah we’re nominating an entire conference and we think it deserves it.

THE 1994 AKRON ZIPS - 1-10
They threw 5 TD passes and 26 INTs on the year! Their QBs on the year below!

Probably should have had the Running Back throw more passes this year?
Finished tied for 9th in the MAC and Went 1-8 in MAC play
Lost to I-AA #2 Youngstown State 41-7 which was somehow not their largest margin of defeat: that was their loss to Bowling Green 45-0 (they also lost to Miami (OH) by 36 points, 50-14)
THEY WON THE SICKOS GAME OF THE YEAR AGAINST THE WINLESS OHIO BOBCATS IN THE LAST GAME OF THE SEASON
Their Head Coach was GERRY FAUST, the former Notre Dame coach, who retired at the end of this year. He went out a winner in his last game!

Ohio vs Akron in the Rubber Bowl November 19, 1994 - the Zips won 24-10.

THE 1994 RAGIN CAJUNS - 6-5
The Ragin Cajuns were in the Big West Conference, if that wasn’t Sickos enough for you, they finished in a 3-Way for the Conference Title with Nevada and UNLV.
They finished the year with a -43 Point Differential. The worst point differential for a team to finish with a winning record.
They threw 10 TD passes and 19 INTs on the year. With their QB Jake Delhomme.

They started 1-3, and lost a conference game to San Jose State who finished 3-8.
Then rattled off conference wins over La Tech, Arkansas State, Utah State and UNLV.
The only non conference game they won was the last game of the year, a 17-14 victory over Western Michigan.
They averaged Points/G: 20.1 (78th of 107) and Opp Pts/G: 24.0 (58th of 107)

THE 1994 UNLV REBELS - 7-5
UNLV won a share of the Big West Conference in the Three Way Tie
They finished with a -42 Point Differential, which was just one point shy of the mark set by the Cajuns.
They finished the year by throwing 17 TDs and 22 INTs. With two QBs who had nearly identical completion percentages of 48.8% and 48.7%

This seemed like the same QB but twice!
They scored Points/G: 23.9 (57th of 107) and Opp Pts/G: 27.7 (78th of 107)
They started 1-2 losing to Central Michigan and lost to I-AA Idaho 48-38.
The only conference game loss was a 28-27 loss to the Cajuns but they upset Nevada for the Freemont Cannon, which caused the 3-Way Big Ten Conference tie.
Also, the faced Central Michigan in the Las Vegas Bowl and got revenge with a 30 point victory, 54-24. But it still didn’t improve their point differential enough!

THE 1994 LSU TIGERS - 4-7
LSU finished with a -1 Point Differential.
They threw for 17 TDs and 21 INTs.
They had one legendarily bad 4th Quarter against #11 Auburn at Jourdan-Hare Stadium and I was actually in attendance as a 13 year old for my first ever road LSU Game with my Dad. Blame this one on me LSU fans I guess.

LSU lost the game 30-26 after throwing 5 INTs and 3 Pick 6’s in the 4th Quarter and still had a chance to win but hey they threw an interception.
LSU then followed it up with a 18-17 loss to South Carolina, blowout loss to #5 Florida, win 17-13 over 1-10 Kentucky, loss to Ole Miss and Bama.
The final nail in the coffin was a 20-18 loss to Southern Miss.
LSU fired Curly Halman, who was hired from Southern Miss after he loss to Southern Miss. A weird circle of Sickos moment in 1994.
After firing the coach, they beat hapless Tulane 49-25 and 4-6 Arkansas to win the Golden Boot.
Hallman left Baton Rouge with the poorest record (16–28, .364) of any coach in school history.
