The Sickos Synopsis - Our Weekly early 1900s Style Old-Timey Game Recaps - Week 7 Edition

In partnership with

Here at the Sickos Committee, we really love the Old-Timey newspaper headlines from college football games from the 1920s and earlier. We wanted to do a weekly recap of some randomly decided games in this Old-Timey style of writing for the fun of it. Just try to imagine an old-school news reporter reading this aloud to you on an old transistor radio. Also, we go really heavy on the alliteration.

How do we decide which games we do? Well, if you are declared the Sickos Committee Game of the Week, you get one automatically no matter what happens. However, the others are randomly decided by the committee writing staff; it could be the normal headliner game of the week or some random FCS game we got drawn in by and just wanted to write about because we found it compelling. We typically do about three to six games a week.

FLASHES FRY, FLUMMOX, FLATTEN, FRICASSEE, FEATHER, FUMIGATE, FLAME, FLING, FLIP, FINISH, FLEECE, MOROSE MINUTEMEN

October 11, 2025 - Kent, Ohio

The uniformed UMass army from Amherst ambled over to Kent, Ohio, to take on a new conference foe in the galloping Golden Flashes of Kent State. Both teams were looking for their first win over FBS footballers in ages and met for some MACtion in the daytime at Dix Stadium. From the onset, the Flashes flew out of the gates when Da'Realyst Clark careened across the canvas for a 91-yard touchdown return to open the contest. The Flashes found more points with a touchdown toss and a 14-0 lead. The Minutemen managed to minimize the margin with a field goal, but Kent State struck again like lightning for a 21-3 lead. UMass muscled another field goal to make it a two-possession game at the halftime horn, 21-6. The cantankerous Kent State crew came out cranky and crushed every single Massachusetts defensive deterrence attempted by the Amherst army. The Golden Flashes flung the football all over the field willingly and the crowd cheered sounding like a calliope. Kent State was finding touchdown after touchdown, like a touchdown merry-go-round, to the tune of twenty-one points in the 3rd period of play. The Kent State lead ballooned to 36 and stayed there for a hallowed Homecoming victory, clinching their first FBS victory since 2022 for the Fighting Flashes.

PITT PANTHERS PREVAIL, STYMIE SEMINOLES

October 11, 2025 - Tallahassee, FL

The University of Pittsburgh has a proud tradition for football. Boasting a Heisman Trophy winner and 9 claimed national championships, the Pitt Panthers have been a powerful presence in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for over 130 years. Their opponent today, Florida State University, is a relative newcomer to the world of big-time college football. Formerly a teachers college, the Seminoles rose to prominence through the 1980s and 1990s. Having shared a conference for now over a decade, this year’s matchup was a back-and-forth affair that left everyone greatly excited. Scoring was plentiful; the first drives of the game all ended in touchdowns, and after that exchange the Panthers took the lead. Following some punts, one from each team, the Noles evened the score with their second touchdown. From there, Pitt threw two interceptions on consecutive drives, but the Noles only scored after one of them, though it gave them the advantage. After the half, the teams embarked on a blow-for-blow match where the teams traded scores and threw haymakers. Once Pitt tied it up with a touchdown, the Seminoles kicked a field goal, the 4th lead change of the day. But, the Pitt Panther, poised, prepared, and proud scored 13 unanswered points, putting themselves in the lead for good. A late touchdown from Florida State was not enough to put them back in the lead.

HOOSIERS HARASSING HAUNT EXTENDS IN EUGENE

October 11, 2025 - Eugene, OR

As the season has continued, the Indiana University Hoosiers continue their rampage through the Big Ten Conference. They have shown little lapse in their winning ways from a season ago. This week the Hoosiers stopped by the University of Oregon to continue their streak. Wasting no time, the Hoosiers stopped the Ducks on downs and scored a field goal. Their defense continued to stand tall, but so did the home team. A pair of punts from teams led to Oregon getting on the board with a touchdown, though they could not stop Indiana from getting their first on the subsequent drive. Once that was over, the Webfoots kicked a field goal of their own. For the rest of the half, there was more punting and a missed field goal from Oregon. Indiana made their field goal attempt as the half ended. After the break, the scoring resumed, another field goal for Oregon, but another touchdown for the Hoosiers. To prove their defense was determined, dedicated, and decisive, the Ducks take an interception back for a pick six! From there, the game was all Hoosiers, as they got the final 10 points of the evening, and the Ducks final possessions were interception, interception, and end of game, as time ran out for the green-clad Webfoots.

BYU BREAKS WANING WILDCATS

October 11, 2025 - Tucson, AZ

Out in the desert, the University of Arizona has been shouting “BEARDOWN” to their football eleven for over a century. The team this week engaged with the Cougars of Brigham Young University. (BYU) The game had all the excitement one could ask for. The first half featured four touchdowns (two for each team), a missed field goal from BYU, and Arizona getting a takeaway where the Wildcats catch an interception right before the half. The Wildcats repay the favor by throwing an interception of their own to start the third quarter, but the Cougars do nothing with it. Once the BYU eleven throw another interception, ‘Zona turns it into a touchdown. BYU gets 10 more points to end the game, tying it up and sending it to overtime. The extra football takes one period that gives another tie, with both teams scoring field goals. In the second period, BYU gets a touchdown and stuffs the Arizona offense, maintaining the perfect record that they return to Provo with.

BARE-BACKED BROS BUILD BROTHERHOOD DURING BREATHTAKING BEATDOWN

October 11, 2025 - Stillwater, OK

The Cardiac Cougars from the Coast crawled ‘cross the state up to Stillwater for a Saturday showdown against the Oklahoma State Cowboys. The Cowboys capitalized on their opening offense, fiercely flying down the field in a 5-play, 75-yard touchdown trek. But the Cowboys’ carousing was quickly quelled as the Cougars countered with their own calculated crusade, capped off with a concussion-cleared Conner Wegman cantering into the endzone to even the score. Three minutes later, Houston tacked on a tactful field goal to take the lead 10-7. After a missed kick and a minus-yard mishap for the Cougars, the Cowboys once again evened the match at 10-10. From then on, it was a heyday for Houston. The vicious visitors commandeered control and refused to relent. The defense dominated and denied any delight for the Oklahomans, while the Cougar offense overpowered their opponents and surged forward, scoring 29 more points before the Cowboys added on a too-little, too-late touchdown.
