The Sickos Synopsis for Week 5 - Auburn/LSU, FIU/NMSU and Louisville/Boston College.

Here at the Sickos Committee, we really love the Old-Timey newspaper headlines from college football games from the 1920s and earlier. We wanted to do a weekly recap of some randomly decided Sickos games in this Old-Timey style of writing for the fun of it. Just try to imagine an old school news reporter reading this aloud to you on an old transistor radio. Here are the headlines for Week 5. Sorry, it is only three games this week but we fell a little behind due to the travel to New Mexico State.

Oct 1st - Auburn, AL

The LSU Tigers traipsed their way to tangle with the Tigers of Auburn in a SEC Conference Clash. Auburn Head Coach Bryan Harsin, haunted by the hot seat and harassed by the Auburn Boosters jauntily jogged into Jordan Hare with his toughened Tigers. Auburn aggressively attacked their Tiger twin and took a 7-0 lead. The War Eagle’s then wonderfully wandered 99 yards and took a 14-0 lead early in the second quarter. The Tigers tacked on a field goal to trap Brian Kelly’s Bayou Bengals with a three possession deficit 17-0. LSU listlessly languished on offense but their defense forced a fortuitous fumble and took it back for a touchdown. The Tigers from Louisiana began to awaken and arrived in the end zone cutting the Auburn lead down to 17-14 at halftime. LSU leapt out to a 21-17 lead late in the 3rd quarter. The Tigers from Auburn awestruck by another blown second half lead couldn’t counter the LSU left hook and found themselves aghast and out of answers. Auburn then terribly turned the ball over three times after LSU took the lead. The Bayou Bengals killed the clock and closed out the contest.

Oct 1st - Las Cruces, NM

A contingent of the Committee, including the Commissioner, crossed countless cow pastures in West Texas to consume all the chili peppers in Las Cruces. The committee was graciously granted press passes for the game between FIU and New Mexico State. Florida International flew over international waters to arrive at Aggie Memorial stadium. FIU launched out of the locker room and converted a touchdown leaving their media team scurrying and scrambling to summon how to put up a touchdown graphic for social media. New Mexico State strongly rallied and responded rolling down the field to tie up the score at 7-7. The Panthers put their previous 73-0 loss in the past and pounded the Aggies defense defiantly dashing and dancing their way to two more touchdowns in the second quarter taking a 21-7 halftime lead. The Aggie fans were flabbergasted as FIU was a fifteen point underdog and they found themselves behind fourteen at the half. The Aggies attempted to answer and cut, chisel and carve into the Panthers lead in the second half but couldn’t convert fourth downs or field goals. FIU carefully carried the football and counted down the clock to close out the competition.

Oct 1st - Chestnut Hill, MA.

The Cardinals cruised to Chestnut Hill to clash with the eager Eagles in an ACC Atlantic conference contest. Louisville leapt out to a 7-0 lead lightly working up a sweat on the opening drive. Boston College confused and confounded themselves by continuously carving up the Cardinals defense only to carelessly cough up the ball and give it back to Louisville. The eccentric Eagles easily moved the ball back and forth and up and down the field scoring at will unless they tripped and turned the ball over. The Cardinals and Eagles traded touchdown after touchdown as time ticked down in the first half with the Cards clinging to a two point lead 23-21 at halftime. Louisville extended their lead on the Eagles early in the second half but BC bounced right back connecting on a beautiful bomb to the briskly running wide receiver for a “nice” 69 yard touchdown pass taking the lead 28-26. The Cards countered immediately, crossing the field on a capricious counterclaim to counteract the BC comeback by scoring a touchdown taking the lead back 33-28. The Eagles chipped at the Cards advantage by catapulting a 37 yard field goal to cut the lead down to 33-31. The Boston College defense bowed up and battled the courageous Cardinals by corralling them and forcing a fierce fourth down stop. The Eagles' expeditious excursion for the lead edged into the red zone and climbed into chip shot field goal range. Boston College converted the timely 26 yard kick with 1:56 left. The Cardinals attempted to answer but the Boston College congregation closed and collared the Cards and didn’t allow a yard on the final foray for Louisville.
