The Sickos Stats Summary - Week 6!!

In partnership with

Welcome back to the Sickos Stats Summary!

If you missed this last year and the explainer, this year at the Sickos Sentinel, we’re going to bring you something called the Sickos Stats Summary. It’s basically going to be weird stats on different things we found that we don’t think get a lot of attention. We will make some graphics every week and try to give you a few amounts of stats that are unconventionally appealing or things that don’t get highlighted much.

Do I know how many stats will be in each weekly post? Nope.

Also, if I miss something on these, feel free to yell at me to correct. I am nowhere near perfect and data pulls miss things sometimes 🙂

The Sickos Stats Summary

Before we get to the normal things I post in here. We had an NCAA Record set this weekend and I wanted to call attention to it.

Western Carolina’s QB Taron Dickens went 46/46 to open the game setting an NCAA Record. He finished 53/56 with 378 yards passing.

He also had to engineer a 51 yard game winning field goal drive to keep Western Carolina’s SoCon Conference Title hopes alive. What a game, maybe one day I will make a cut up of all the completions. Now for the normal fun stuff.

WEEK 6 SAFETY ALERTS FOR GAMES INVOLVING DIVISION I TEAMS

In 2024, we started tracking records of people who scored a safety on their opponent. Last year teams who scored a safety were 58-29 on the year. A winning percentage of .666%. So, we wanted to track them again.

Overall 22-12 this season when scoring a safety. I wonder if the rash of intentional safeties is skewing this number???

We had some really good safeties this week! It was awesome and I hope didn’t miss any! The data pull missed three and I think I got them all. If not, yell at me like always, I won’t get mad and will try to update this as soon as possible. This is mostly a manual process since not many people care about safeties like we do here. Hell most of the safety clips, I have to get myself.

  • South Florida blocked a punt so hard, if you blinked you missed the ball flying out the end zone

  • Miami University blocked a punt in MACtion play on NIU

  • Oregon State got a safety in the Sickos Committee Game of the Week

  • Illinois State started the game out with a safety against North Dakota State

  • UCLA took an intentional safety against Penn State to preserve the win

  • Penn got a safety on Dartmouth when the long snapper air mailed one over the punter’s head.

  • Ball State got one when Ohio QB Parker Navarro couldn’t handle the low snap.

  • The Gators blocked a Texas punt for a safety.

  • Syracuse stuffed an SMU run for a safety.

Overall a mixed bag safety week again with 9 safeties found. 5-4 this week when scoring a safety. Overall 27-16 this season.

LONGEST SCORING DRIVE OF THE WEEK - TIME OF POSSESSION - FIELD GOAL

We had a lot of teams on Bye Weeks this week and the drives weren’t as long as usual. However, Alabama used this 16 play, 69 yard drive to make it a two possession game against Vandy and held on from there.

LONGEST SCORING DRIVE OF THE WEEK - TIME OF POSSESSION - TOUCHDOWN

You know Army typically dominates this stat. Well, this is Army’s first award this year. Their first TD drive against UAB was a masterful 18 play, 74 yard, 10 Minute and 34 second drive for a 7-0 lead. This was Army’s first possession of the game too. It went so long, it started in the 1st quarter and ended in the second quarter. Good clean old fashioned football.

LONGEST NON-SCORING DRIVE OF THE WEEK - TIME OF POSSESSION - TURNOVER ON DOWNS

James Madison was on the road in Atlanta to take on a Sun Belt East foe in Georgia State. Georgia State just scored a touchdown and James Madison was looking to answer. JMU got it all the way down to 4th and 3 at the Georgia State 15 and decided to not kick a field goal. They lost a yard on the play and turned it over on downs.

LONGEST PUNT OF THE WEEK FOR DIVISION I

We had some good punting this week. We started on Thursday Night with a 72 yard punt by Sam Houston. We had a 75 yard punt by Portland State. But our winner was a 76 yard punt by Dylan Drennan of Buffalo. His 76 yard boot takes the award for the Week! The Mac knows we love punts and they clipped it for us! No idea who this other person is they tagged in the punt highlight. 😉

Dylan’s award

Also, as a note, we’re shipping trophies to each week’s longest punt winner. So Dylan, your trophy is on the way! We put it on our YouTube channel too.
