The Sickos Stats Summary - Week 2!!

In partnership with

Welcome back to the Sickos Stats Summary!

If you missed this last year and the explainer, this year at the Sickos Sentinel, we’re going to bring you something called the Sickos Stats Summary. It’s basically going to be weird stats on different things we found that we don’t think get a lot of attention. We will make some graphics every week and try to give you a few amounts of stats that are unconventionally appealing or things that don’t get highlighted much.

Do I know how many stats will be in each weekly post? Nope.

The Sickos Stats Summary

WEEK 2 SAFETY ALERTS FOR GAMES INVOLVING DIVISION I TEAMS

In 2024, we started tracking records of people who scored a safety on their opponent. Last year teams who scored a safety were 58-29 on the year. A winning percentage of .666%. So, we wanted to track them again.

This year the total record with scoring a safety this week was 5-4 after Week 1. These safeties are from teams who were in a game involving a Division I team, weather it is FBS or FCS. Also, I feel like I am missing some and if I missed one, it could be accurate.

SAFETY ALERTS

We had 8 safeties according to the data pull but I feel like I missed some of them it.

  • Missouri got one on Kansas and there was likely an illegal batting in here but they counted it. So we have too also.

  • Georgia State got a safety against Memphis

  • Old Dominion got a safety on NC Central

  • Texas State got an errant snap safety on UTSA

  • Wake Forest stuffed Western Carolina on a run for a safety

  • South Florida got one that helped them upset Florida

  • Wazzu got one on San Diego State

  • Nebraska got one early on Akron en route to a large win.

The record this week was 7-1!! Only Georgia State lost while scoring a safety. This year teams with a safety are now 12-5.

LONGEST SCORING DRIVE OF THE WEEK - TIME OF POSSESSION

Western Carolina was not having a good time playing Wake Forest but for one magical drive in the fourth quarter, they put it together for their only touchdown of the game.

Drive Summary

They went 14 plays in 10 minutes and three seconds for the longest scoring drive of the week! The Catamounts may have not won the game but they won the award this week!

Western Carolina’s Award

LONGEST NON-SCORING DRIVE OF THE WEEK - TIME OF POSSESSION

The Dayton Flyers welcomed in Thomas More College into Welcome Stadium. The Flyers took their opening drive and started the game off correctly.

That’s right 20 plays for 59 yards taking 11 minutes and 43 seconds, resulting in a missed 21 yard field goal. It truly was art. Don’t worry Dayton still won 38-0 and won this award in the process.

THE LONGEST PUNT OF THE WEEK

Charleston Southern punter Gilbert Brown is on all the FCS Punter of the Year watch lists. He struck this 82 yard punt with his very first punt of the game against Coastal Carolina.

Longest Punt of the Week!

You know we couldn’t find video of this punt anywhere. So I had to manually capture it and post it to our YouTube. We will publish it more when this comes out.

I’ll leave you with this information to end the summary.
