The Sickos Stats Summary for Week 5

Welcome to the Sickos Stats Summary for Week 5!!

Welcome back to the Sickos Stats Summary for Week 5! If you missed the previous weeks and the explainer, this year at the Sickos Sentinel, we’re going to bring you something called the Sickos Stats Summary. It’s basically going to be weird stats on different things we found that we don’t think get a lot of attention. We will make some graphics every week and try to give you a few amounts of stats that are unconventionally appealing or things that don’t get highlighted much.

Do I know how many stats will be in each weekly post? Nope.

SAFETY ALERTS FOR WEEK 5

You know we love our safeties here. It’s a scoring play that's rare, and it leads to weird scores that you don’t see too often. So we want to shout out these teams that scored a safety. We were able to gather data from the FBS, FCS and DII. If we miss one in our data search, we’re sorry. It is not intentional, and sometimes the data is faulty.

This week was I think the first week where if you got a safety, we were almost below .500 record wise at 4-3. Getting a safety didn’t mean you’d win this week. Valpo got a Safety but could only put up 5 total points. San Diego got a safety and lost to a walk off kick by Drake. Florida State got a safety but SMU just snapped it out of the endzone. A wild week 5 to say the least.

  • Week 1 - 8-3 Record

  • Week 2 - 7-1 Record

  • Week 3 - 3-0 Record

  • Week 4 - 6-3 Record

  • Week 5 - 4-3 Record

  • 28-10 Record on the Year if you score a safety

LONGEST NON-SCORING DRIVE OF THE WEEK - TIME OF POSSESSION

Tulane was up 45-10 when they took over the ball with 11:58 remaining in the game. The Wave meandered the ball on an ultimate run-out-the-clock drive, starting on their own 40-yard line. They eroded the South Florida defense and converted four 3rd downs, getting down to the USF 1-yard line. Then, instead of punching it in for another score, the merciful Green Wave took three kneel downs and gave the ball back to USF with 36 seconds left.

LONGEST PUNT OF THE WEEK - FBS, FCS and DII

Shane Dunning of Drake had himself a day! He hit a monster 81-yard punt to be downed at the 2-yard line. Then, to top it all off, he hit a game-winning 48-Yard field goal to lift Drake over San Diego 30-28, capping off his perfect day.

LONGEST SCORING DRIVE OF THE WEEK - TIME OF POSSESSION

The Bison embarked on 2nd Quarter drive that worked the Illinois State Redbirds defense. They took this drive in for a Touchdown which set the tone for the game and gave them a 14-0 lead. Sure, the Redbirds were only down 14-7 at the half but the Bison took the next four drives in the second half in for touchdowns cruising to a comfortable 42-10 win.

Thank you for reading! We are working on more data sorting to come up with more ridiculous stats to celebrate, so stay tuned. Also, feel free to suggest more ideas in the comments!

Also, we have some more stats coming! We will be rebranding a metric from last year to a newly better named one and then an all new stat to calculate the Spinach Team of the Week!
