The Sickos Stats Summary for Week 7

Welcome back to the Sickos Stats Summary for Week 7! If you missed the previous weeks and the explainer, this year at the Sickos Sentinel, we’re going to bring you something called the Sickos Stats Summary. It’s basically going to be weird stats on different things we found that we don’t think get a lot of attention. We will make some graphics every week and try to give you a few amounts of stats that are unconventionally appealing or things that don’t get highlighted much.

Do I know how many stats will be in each weekly post? Nope.

SAFETY ALERTS FOR WEEK 7

You know we love our safeties here. It’s a scoring play that's rare, and it leads to weird scores that you don’t see too often. So we want to shout out these teams that scored a safety. We were able to gather data from the FBS, FCS and DII. If we miss one in our data search, we’re sorry. It is not intentional, and sometimes the data is faulty.

THANK GOD WE HAD SOME DIVISION I SAFETIES THIS WEEK!!

So we didn’t have any Division 1 Safeties last week, but we bounced back with five this week. However, this was our first week with a losing record overall while scoring a safety. South Carolina, The Citadel and Yale all lost, but they registered a safety.

Georgia Southern used their safety in the 4th quarter to come back and beat Marshall in improbable fashion. They were down 23-3, got a safety to make it 23-5, and then rattled off 21 unanswered points to win 24-23 against Marshall. Jax State got a safety and dominated New Mexico State from start to finish.

  • Week 1 - 8-3 Record

  • Week 2 - 7-1 Record

  • Week 3 - 3-0 Record

  • Week 4 - 6-3 Record

  • Week 5 - 4-3 Record

  • Week 6 - 0-0 Record

  • Week 7 - 2-3 Record

  • 30-13 Record on the Year if you score a safety

LONGEST NON-SCORING DRIVE OF THE WEEK - TIME OF POSSESSION

Our second Yale sighting of this Week 7 review. They went on an improbably short yet long journey against Dartmouth in one of the wildest games of the weekend. This was Yale’s first drive, and they took over at their own 40-yard line. Penalties played a part in this drive, for good and bad. Dartmouth extended the drive twice on 3rd down, one with a defensive hold on 3rd and 4, and then another penalty by Dartmouth on 3rd and GOAL from the 27-yard line. However, Dartmouth held on 4th and 9 at the Dartmouth 10, when the fake field goal didn’t work. The funny thing is that Dartmouth then went three and out, then snapped the ball out the end zone for a 2-0 Yale lead.

LONGEST SCORING DRIVE OF THE WEEK - TIME OF POSSESSION

We had some real stiff competition for this award this week, but the Sharks won this one by JUST FOUR SECONDS!! Maryland had an 18-play, 86-yard field goal drive in 9 Minutes and 28 Seconds, Air Force had a 17-play, 54-Yard field goal drive in 9 Minutes and 28 Seconds. Texas State had a 14-play, 72-Yard field goal drive in 9 Minutes and 26 Seconds. Nicholls had a 17-play, 63-Yard field goal drive in 9 Minutes and 16 Seconds.

LIU used this drive to kill the game in the 4th Quarter against Stonehill on their way to their first win of the year. They took the drive in for a touchdown and a 31-7 lead, which was also the final score! Let’s go Sharks!

LONGEST PUNT OF THE WEEK - FBS, FCS and DII

Nothing like booting the ball at high altitude in Laramie! This 75 yard boot for San Diego State’s Tyler Pastula wound up in a touchback but we don’t care.

Also, we wanted to issue a correction from last week! We mistakenly put a picture of Connor Taylor’s brother on the graphic. They both play for South Dakota School of Mines and let’s just say the site owned by Elon led us to make the mistake. Congrats again Connor, here’s your corrected graphic.

Thank you for reading! We are working on more data sorting to come up with more ridiculous stats to celebrate, so stay tuned. Also, feel free to suggest more ideas in the comments!

Also, we have some more stats coming! We will be rebranding a metric from last year to a newly better named one and then an all new stat to calculate the Spinach Team of the Week!
