Welcome back to the Sickos Stats Summary!

If you missed this last year, welcome to the Sickos Stats Summary. It’s basically going to be weird stats on different things we found that we don’t think get a lot of attention. We will make some graphics every week and try to give you a few amounts of stats that are unconventionally appealing or things that don’t get highlighted much.

Do I know how many stats will be in each weekly post? Nope.

Also, if I miss something on these, feel free to yell at me to correct. I am nowhere near perfect and data pulls miss things sometimes 🙂

WEEK TWO SAFETY ALERTS FOR GAMES INVOLVING DIVISION I TEAMS

In 2024, we started tracking records of people who scored a safety on their opponent. In 2024, teams who scored a safety were 58-29 on the year. A winning percentage of .666%.

Teams scoring a safety were 58-27 in 2025 when scoring a safety this season for the DI Teams. A win percentage of .682 of in 2025. A slight improvement over 2024.

Coming into this week, teams are 8-3 this year when scoring a safety. This week was mostly, if you scored a safety, you won!

We had a bit of a theme for some safeties this week:

  • Auburn forced an intentional grounding penalty for a safety on USM

  • Pitt also forced an intentional grounding penalty for a safety on UCF

  • Arkansas Baptist had a snap over the head of the QB for a HCU safety while they were already down 79-0.

  • Wofford got a snap over the Kent State punter’s head for a safety.

  • William and Mary snapped it over the QB’s head for a Lehigh safety.

  • South Dakota State stuffed a New Haven run for a safety

  • Merrimack stuffed a Maine run for a safety to seal a victory.

  • North Dakota stuffed a Portland State run for a safety.

  • Chicago State got a strip sack of Kentucky Christian for a safety.

  • Navy got a safety when the snap when over the FAU’s punters head

Teams went 8-2 this week when scoring safeties. (Sorry Navy & Wofford). Teams improve to 16-5 on the year when scoring a safety.

LONGEST SCORING DRIVE OF THE WEEK - TIME OF POSSESSION - FIELD GOAL

We have something special that happened this week that has not happened for as long as we have been doing these. Both the Longest Scoring and Non Scoring drives happened in the SAME GAME.

When the BIG TEN AND SEC get together, it's all about Marquee Matchups! Cause you know which is the better conference, right? We have to argue this at all times. Because it really matters who is better!!

WELL, THE BIG TEN AND SEC KNOW HOW TO POSSESS THE BALL FOR A LONG, LONG TIME ON DRIVES!!

Before the game got out of hand, Minnesota took their opening drive 16 plays for 58 yards in 10 minutes and 11 seconds, making a 44-yard field goal to make the game 7-3.

LONGEST NON-SCORING DRIVE OF THE WEEK - TIME OF POSSESSION

Now the game was out of hand at this point, and Mississippi State was leading 38-13 in drain the entire 4th quarter mode. The Bulldogs went on this journey of 16 plays, 74 yards in 10 minutes and 27 seconds. They got their 20-yard field goal attempt blocked, but by doing that, we get BIG TEN AND SEC winners of the Longest Scoring and Non Scoring Drives of the week. They truly are the superior conferences this year 😉 (winky face).

THE LONGEST PUNT OF THE WEEK THAT DIDN’T COUNT

MORE SEC AND BIG TEN SUPREMACY IN THE SICKOS STATS SUMMARY. Oklahoma was pinned back in the 1st Quarter and was forced to punt, and Grayson Miller got off this BOOMING 82-yard punt, but there was a penalty, and Oklahoma chose to take the first down.

So what did Oklahoma do with the drive after that penalty? 5 more plays and then punted to Michigan again, this time downed at the 9-yard line instead of a touchback. A net gain of 11 yards.

THE LONGEST PUNT OF THE WEEK THAT ACTUALLY COUNTED - DIVISION 1

We had to subscribe to Mountain West PLUS to get the Hawaii Test this weekend. Well, it turned out we needed it to actually clip the Longest Punt of the Week that actually counted. Texas Southern was down 42-10 to UTEP and sent the house to try to block this punt. Kicker and Punter extraordinaire Brian Mays booms this one with the rush in his face 84 yards into the El Paso sky. Also, at the end of the play, a Texas Southern player totally ran into the UTEP returner, getting a dead ball foul. BUT the PUNT distance still counts! Congrats to Brian on this BOOT, and it was even longer than the Oklahoma one that didn’t count!

Enjoy the BOOT by Brian below.

THE LOWEST SCORING GAME OF THE WEEK - ALL DIVISIONS

We have been playing around with our data pulls a good bit lately, and I wanted to add this one this week. We go to DIII for the lowest-scoring game of the week. Pacific (OR) had won 11 straight over Willamette. But this week was different, an absolute slugfest here. Willamette got a touchdown but missed the extra point. Pacific got a 4th Quarter FG but couldn’t tie the game, where there were 14 punts and both teams went 7 for 32 on 3rd down conversions and 1 for 5 on 4th down conversions. Congrats to Willamette for ending the streak!
