The Sickos Stats Summary for Week 3

Welcome to the Sickos Stats Summary for Week 3!!

Welcome back to the Sickos Stats Summary for Week 3! If you missed the previous weeks and the explainer, this year at the Sickos Sentinel, we’re going to bring you something called the Sickos Stats Summary. It’s basically going to be weird stats on different things we found that we don’t think get a lot of attention. We will make some graphics every week and try to give you a few amounts of stats that are unconventionally appealing or things that don’t get highlighted much.

Do I know how many stats will be in each weekly post? Nope.

Apologies for not having this ready sooner. The travel to the Backyard Brawl and back home to San Antonio caused the delay of a day. Please forgive me. This will be a shorter edition due to the travel, but don’t worry, I will write about the trip.

SAFETY ALERTS FOR WEEK 3

You know we love our safeties here. It’s a scoring play that's rare, and it leads to weird scores that you don’t see too often. So we want to shout out these teams that scored a safety. We were able to gather data from the FBS, FCS and DII. If we miss one in our data search, we’re sorry. It is not intentional, and sometimes the data is faulty.

It looks like we only had three safeties this week on the data dive. Vandy muffed a kick-off, which bounced into the end zone and was recovered by the returner for a safety after a fun review. Kent State had a ball snapped over their QB’s head for a safety. UT-Martin earned theirs with a sack.

  • Week 1 - 8-3 Record

  • Week 2 - 7-1 Record

  • Week 3 - 3-0 Record

  • 18-4 Record on the Year if you score a safety.

LONGEST NON SCORING DRIVE OF THE WEEK - PLAYS AND TIME OF POSSESION

I had to give out a dual award here because these happened in the same game on back-to-back possessions. Lamar took over after a missed field goal by Weber State. They went 16 plays and 80 yards and were stuffed on 4th and 1 from the Weber State 3-yard line. Weber State then went 20 plays and 96 yards, getting stuffed at the Lamar 1-yard line on 4th and Goal. When you put the Southland and Big Sky together, you typically get some fun, and, oh, did that happen here! Lamar skated away with the 17-16 win after Weber State missed a 40-yard field goal for the win.

LONGEST PUNT OF THE WEEK - FBS, FCS and DII

Shout out to Aiden Clark of Central Connecticut State for this awesome boot of 84 yards!! Click here to watch the 84 Yard Punt . Now I don’t know if I agree with the St. Francis returner attempting to return it from the 1-yard line, as it appeared it would roll in the end zone, or it may have been stopping. Regardless, congrats, Aiden!

Thank you for reading! We are working on more data sorting to come up with more ridiculous stats to celebrate, so stay tuned. Also, feel free to suggest more ideas in the comments!
