The Sickos Stats Summary for Week 2!

Welcome to the Sickos Stats Summary for Week 2!!

Welcome back to the Sickos Stats Summary for Week 2! If you missed Week 1 and the explainer, this year at the Sickos Sentinel, we’re going to bring you something called the Sickos Stats Summary. It’s basically going to be weird stats on different things we found that we don’t think get a lot of attention. We will make some graphics every week and try to give you a few amounts of stats that are unconventionally appealing or things that don’t get highlighted much.

Do I know how many stats will be in each weekly post? Nope.

SAFETY ALERTS FOR WEEK 2

You know we love our safeties here. It’s a scoring play that's rare, and it leads to weird scores that you don’t see too often. So we want to shout out these teams that scored a safety in Week 1. We were able to gather data from FBS, FCS and DII. If we miss one in our data pull, we’re sorry. It is not intentional and sometimes the data is faulty.

We will keep records for all the teams that score a safety. Special Shout out to Edinboro, they won 23-21 over Robert Morris. The last score of that game was their Safety with 11:08 in the 4th Quarter for the 23-21 lead. GAME WINNING SAFETY!

  • Week 1 - 8-3 Record

  • Week 2 - 7-1 Record (only loss was Richmond)

  • 15-4 Record on the Year if you score a safety.

LONGEST SCORING DRIVE OF THE WEEK - MOST PLAYS

McNeese was in a buy game with Texas A&M and was down 45-0 at the time this drive started. They mounted this march and connected on a 10 yard TD Pass on 3rd and 9 from the Aggies 10 yard line. Also, McNeese scored a field goal as the time expired here to make the score 52-10.

LONGEST SCORING DRIVE OF THE WEEK - DISTANCE & OVER 10 MINUTES TIME OF POSSESSION

Army is known for these types of drives but I had to find a way to get this into the Sickos Stats Summary. 15 Plays, 96 Yards, 10 Minutes, 33 Seconds and 23 Yard TD Scored on a Fake Field Goal where they ran the Option with the Kicker and Holder. Magnificent work.

LONGEST SCORING DRIVE OF THE WEEK ENDING IN A PUNT - PLAYS, TIME OF POSSESSION AND YARDS

We go to our Sickos Game of the Week between Duke and Northwestern. The Wildcats marched 11 plays, 48 yards in 8 minutes and 57 seconds but were forced to punt on 4th and 23 on the Duke 40 yard line. This pretty much worked out as Duke muffed the punt, Northwestern recovered on the Duke 11 yard line and scored a touchdown 2 plays later. Punting is Winning, right? (ignore the final score).

LONGEST NON SCORING DRIVE OF THE WEEK - PLAYS AND TIME OF POSSESION

Eastern Kentucky wouldn’t let Western Kentucky wear white for their White Out game. So the Hilltoppers basically wouldn’t let the Colonels score, shutting them out 31-0. EKU took the opening drive of the 2nd Half down to the WKU 1 yard line and settled for a 17 yard field goal, which was doinked and missed. Western Kentucky was on the other side of this award last week, is this something you pass on to your opponent? We will find out next week?

SHORTEST SCORING DRIVE - DISTANCE AND TIME OF POSSESSION - FCS

Sacred Heart scored the only touchdown of this game after St. Anselm fumbled on 4th and 16 on their 24 yard line and it was recovered at the 3 yard line by the Pioneers. A 1 play, 3 yard rushing TD later Sacred Heart was up by the score of 10-0. They would hold on to win 10-3.

SHORTEST SCORING DRIVE - DISTANCE AND TIME OF POSSESSION - FBS

Texas Tech fumbled on the first play of their drive and Wazzu recovered on the 2 yard line. Next play they took it in 2 seconds off the clock for the TD, on their way to a seemingly easy 34-16 win.

MOST TIME TAKEN OFF THE CLOCK WITH THE LEAST NET YARDAGE GAINED

Vandy was up 27-0 on Alcorn State coming out of halftime and went on this incredible journey. They started on their own 38 yard line and then made it to Alcorn’s 34 yard line. Then things went backwards, 1 yard Loss, Sack, Sack brought them to 4th and 26 at midfield. Vandy wasn’t done there, holding on the punt and a re-kick backed them up to their 40 yard line. Which was just 2 yards from where they started the drive. Congrats Vandy, you won 55-0, ran out of fireworks and also had this in the middle of it!

LONGEST PUNT OF THE WEEK - FBS, FCS and DII

Blake Dowd booted an 80 yarder for Colorado School of Mines. The Punt went viral due to the distance and the coverage teams effort to down it at the 1 yard line. It was awesome and congrats Blake on the Boot of the Week!

LONGEST PUNT OF THE WEEK - FBS

Palmer Williams had some incredible punts this week so I had to give the award for FBS too. He had a 76-yarder downed at the 2 yard line and this 79 yard punt that went for a touchback. Congrats Palmer!

LONGEST PUNT OF THE WEEK - FCS

Jacob Horvath booted a 76 yarder for Eastern Illinois against Indiana State for a touchback. The punt was so powerful it forced Indiana State to throw an interception four plays later on the next drive. Congrats Jacob!

Thank you for reading! We are working on more data sorting to come up with more ridiculous stats to celebrate, so stay tuned. Also, feel free to suggest more ideas in the comments and give the post a like so I can get a nice boost of serotonin.
