The Sickos Stats Summary Championship Week Edition

Welcome back to the Sickos Stats Summary for Conference Championship Week, plus FCS, DII and DIII Playoffs!

The Sickos Stats Summary, is just weird stats on different things we found that we don’t think get a lot of attention. We will make some graphics every week and try to give you a few amounts of stats that are unconventionally appealing or things that don’t get highlighted much.

Do I know how many stats will be in each weekly post? Nope.

SAFETY ALERTS FOR CHAMPIONSHIP WEEK, FCS, DII and DIII Playoffs!!!

We didn’t have any safeties. I am sad, but really, if you were playing football last weekend, you shouldn’t give up a safety. I wish I could have found one, but I didn’t. Furthermore, I am hoping I made a mistake and missed one. Please let me know if I did.

LONGEST SCORING DRIVE OF THE WEEK - TIME OF POSSESSION - TD EDITION

Army slowly strangled the Tulane Green Wave with their option attack and took this drive through the middle of the 4th Quarter and was the exclamation point on the game, giving the Black Knights a 35-7 lead on their way to their first ever Conference Championship.

Honorable mention to THE Ohio Bobcats with the second-longest touchdown drive of the week. They had an 18-play, 82-yard touchdown drive, taking 10 minutes and 14 seconds to get a 14-3 lead in the second quarter on their way to their first ever MAC Championship.

LONGEST SCORING DRIVE OF THE WEEK - TIME OF POSSESSION - FIELD GOAL EDITION

Georgia took this drive deep into the fourth quarter, seemingly sealing the game with this epic field goal drive for a 21-yarder. However, Georgia decided to throw an interception back to Texas, so they could beat the Longhorns in overtime, I guess.

LONGEST NON-SCORING DRIVE OF THE WEEK - TIME OF POSSESSION

I really didn’t feel like making a graphic for this one. The longest one was less than 7 minutes, and it didn’t feel graphic worthy since it didn’t take more than half a quarter. This week’s winner was Tulane with a 12-play, 46-yard drive, taking 6 minutes and 57 seconds, ending with a missed field goal. Tulane also had the second longest one of 12 Plays, 44 yards, for 6 Minutes and 9 Seconds (nice), ending in a bobble field goal snap turnover on downs.

INTERCEPTIONS RETURNED FOR TOUCHDOWNS FOR THE WEEK

We only had one in Division I. North Dakota State got one late in the 4th Quarter to put an exclamation point on the win against Abilene Christian. Logan Kopp got one and returned it for 31 yards for a TD to make the final score 51-31 Bison.

LONGEST PUNT OF THE WEEK - DIVISION I (FBS & FCS), DII & DIII.

We didn’t have many stats this week, so I decided to focus on punts, which for the most part were outdoors and in tough winter weather conditions.

  • UNLV Punter Marshall Nichols had the FBS-leading 63-yard punt for a Touchback.

  • South Dakota Punter Tyler Ebel had the FCS leading 62-yard punt in the comfort of the Dakota Dome.

  • Ferris State Punter Ethan Sossen only got to punt once as Ferris State dominated defending DII Champs Harding. He made his only punt count with a 66-yard punt.

We go all the way down to the DIII Playoffs for this week’s winner.

Ben Gomez booted this one early in the game to flip the field for Depauw against Johns Hopkins. Unfortunately, Depauw’s undefeated season came to an end in a 14-9 loss.

Thank you for reading! We’re going to try to do some fun stuff for our the Bowl Season previews!
