Welcome to the Sickos Committee’s Weather, Travel & Football Master Almanac Network aka the SCWTFMAN.

Here at the SCWTFMAN we will attempt to forecast the upcoming 2024 college football season by using our Sickos Committee alert system. We’re going to do this in the Famer’s Almanac style. If you don’t know what a Farmers' Almanac is, basically it provides long-range weather predictions for both the U.S. and Canada. We will be applying our forecast to all of Division I in the United States. We’re trying to predict what the upcoming season holds for all Division I teams in college football using our Sickos Committee Weather Alert System.

Will these previews be long winded and incredibly in depth? No. 

Will these previews be mostly based on “vibes” as assessed by the Sickos Committee weather forecasters? Yes. 

Basically, we’re going to try to assess the team as a Sickos Warning, Watch or Advisory, give you their record last year, provide a little blurb about the team and for the FCS version to possibly advise you of any of their games against the FBS and interesting schedule tidbits. This year we’re also adding a conference specific thing.

For the Mountain West, we were doing to do the nearest Mountain West of the school but that was unexpectedly really hard. So we will give you the nearest mountain and the direction. Also, since Oregon State and Wazzu play so many Mountain West schools this year, we will do that for them too!

Air Force

Last Year's Record: 9-4 (5-3 MW), won Armed Forces Bowl

Final FBS Sickos Poll Ranking: 36th

Anything New? Their offensive line will have 5 new starters this year, including replacements for 3 first or second team all-MW linemen.

Sickos Forecast: Watch - They’ll be a MW contender this year, but the triple option is always a bit sickos.

Potential Sickos Game(s): at Baylor, September 14. These two faced off in the 2022 Armed Forces bowl, where AF won in a frigid contest (13 degrees at kick). Also Commander in Chief games always deliver.

Distance to State’s Highest Mountain: 86 miles west to Mount Elbert.

Boise State

Last Year's Record: 8-6 (6-2 MW), won MW Title Game, lost LA bowl

Final FBS Sickos Poll Ranking: 31st

Anything New? Spencer Danielson was named head coach this offseason after going 3-1 and winning the MW title as their interim last season.

Sickos Forecast: Watch - They’re still on the blue turf, and that deserves some sickos points.

Potential Sickos Game(s): vs Washington State, September 28. Both teams could be 3-1 entering this one, and a shootout is expected. They finish with Oregon State at home and that should be awesome.

Distance to State’s Highest Mountain: 125 miles east/northeast to Borah Peak.

Colorado State

Last Year's Record: 5-7 (3-5 MW)

Final FBS Sickos Poll Ranking: 69th (nice)

Anything New? New faces in the receiving core, getting transfer WRs from Cincy and Baylor along with a strong Juco TE.

Sickos Forecast: Warning - Their air raid offense should be potent under QB Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi.

Potential Sickos Game(s): vs Colorado, September 14. The Rams fell in Boulder in 2OT last season, they’ll look for revenge at home. At Oregon State and at Nevada in a coach revenge game could prove interesting.

Distance to State’s Highest Mountain: 123 miles southwest to Mount Elbert.

Fresno State

Last Year's Record: 9-4 (4-4 MW), won New Mexico Bowl

Final FBS Sickos Poll Ranking: 130th

Anything New? The great Jeff Tedford stepped away last month due to health concerns, and assistant HC Tim Skipper takes over.

Sickos Forecast: Advisory - They still have the talent to contend in the MW, but the transition will be tough.

Potential Sickos Game(s): at UNLV, September 28. These 2 have averaged a combined 68 points per game in their last 5 matchups, so expect points.

Distance to State’s Highest Mountain: 82 miles east/southeast to Mount Whitney.

Hawaii

Last Year's Record: 5-8 (3-5 MW)

Final FBS Sickos Poll Ranking: 20th

Anything New? Dennis Thurman is their new DC, after holding the position at Jackson State from 2020-22 under Deion Sanders. Shout out to the BRADDAHHOOD.

Sickos Forecast: Warning - We always get a lot of chaos during the Hawaii Tests, and we get 7 of those this year.

Potential Sickos Game(s): vs UCLA, August 31. A week 1 Hawaii Test could be a prime chance for a big upset, and would lead to many UCLA hot takes. At Sam Houston and at Wazzu could have some fireworks.

Distance to State’s Highest Mountain: 183 miles southeast to Mauna Kea.

Nevada

Last Year's Record: 2-10 (2-6 MW)

Final FBS Sickos Poll Ranking: 79th

Anything New? Jeff Choate gets his first FBS head coaching gig after going 26-22 at Montana State from 2016-2020.

Sickos Forecast: Advisory - This will be a major transition year for the Wolf Pack, and we’re hoping for the best.

Potential Sickos Game(s): vs Georgia Southern, September 7. A home upset over a decent Sun Belt foe would give this team tons of momentum.

Distance to State’s Highest Mountain: 141 miles southeast to Boundary Peak.

New Mexico

Last Year's Record: 4-8 (2-6 MW)

Final FBS Sickos Poll Ranking: 106th

Anything New? Bronco Mendenhall returns to coaching after 2 seasons off, returning to NM after serving as DC here from 1998-2002. They lost 6 transfers to ULM since ULM hired their Offensive Coordinator Bryant Vincent as Head Coach (Substack ULM mentioned)

Sickos Forecast: Watch - This is a defense-first group, but a veteran presence at HC could mean some upsets. Also Ray Guy Watch list Punter!

Potential Sickos Game(s): they open the year at home as underdogs to Montana State. Also, at New Mexico State, September 28. The Lobos haven’t won the Battle of I-25 since 2021, and are hungry for a win.

Distance to State’s Highest Mountain: 123 miles northeast to Wheeler Peak.

San Diego State

Last Year's Record: 4-8 (2-6 MW)

Final FBS Sickos Poll Ranking: 108th

Anything New? Sean Lewis went an impressive 24-31 in a tough job at Kent State, and takes over here after being OC at Colorado last year.

Sickos Forecast: Warning - Aztec fans could feel absolute whiplash going from a defense-first team to Lewis’ high-speed offense. Let’s see how long the change takes.

Potential Sickos Game(s): at Central Michigan, September 28. SDSU flies over 2300 miles for a great nickname battle in the Aztecs vs Chippewas.

Distance to State’s Highest Mountain: 271 miles north/northwest to Mount Whitney.

San Jose State

Last Year's Record: 7-6 (6-2 MW), lost Hawaii Bowl

Final FBS Sickos Poll Ranking: 96th

Anything New? Longtime Navy head coach Ken Niumatalolo takes over for Brent Brennan, but won’t be bringing the triple option with him. Their offensive coordinator brings something called the “Spread-and-Shred” offense and we can’t wait to see it in action.

Sickos Forecast: Watch - We’ll see how Niumatalolo does leading a Spreading and Shredding offense. Also, what a belt!

Potential Sickos Game(s): vs Stanford, November 30. SJSU closes their season by hosting a power 4 foe, could be an exclamation point to end it.

Distance to State’s Highest Mountain: 204 miles east/southeast to Mount Whitney.

UNLV

Last Year's Record: 9-4 (6-2 MW), lost MW Title Game, lost Guaranteed Rate Bowl

Final FBS Sickos Poll Ranking: 56th

Anything New? Their new starting QB is Matthew Sluka, who put up nearly 3000 total yards and 29 total TDs last year at Holy Cross.

Sickos Forecast: Warning - This offense will be a blast to watch, and Sluka is a threat in every way.

Potential Sickos Game(s): vs Syracuse, October 4. A Friday night home game against an ACC team in October is peak Sickos.

Distance to State’s Highest Mountain: 213 miles northwest to Mount Whitney.

Utah State

Last Year's Record: 6-7 (4-4 MW), lost Famous Idaho Potato Bowl

Final FBS Sickos Poll Ranking: 118th

Anything New? HC Blake Anderson was fired last month after some ugly off the field issues, the interim is Nate Dreiling, who was NMSU’s DC the last 2 years. They did add former Iowa QB Spencer Petras in the Transfer Portal.

Sickos Forecast: Advisory - We’re just hoping the Aggies can find their footing this year and move past the issues.

Potential Sickos Game(s): at Temple, September 21. They’ll travel all the way to Philly to play in Lincoln Financial Field which sounds like one of the weirdest games this season.

Distance to State’s Highest Mountain: 101 miles southeast to King’s Peak.

Wyoming

Last Year's Record: 9-4 (5-3 MW), won Arizona Bowl

Final FBS Sickos Poll Ranking: 80

Anything New? Jay Sawvel takes over for Craig Bohl after serving as the defensive coordinator here from 2019-2022.

Sickos Forecast: Watch - It’s tough replacing the best coach in program history, so we’ll monitor the transition.

Potential Sickos Game(s): at Arizona State, August 31. These two haven’t met since 1977, and could be a big win to start the Sawvel era.

Distance to State’s Highest Mountain: 246 miles northwest to Gannett Peak

Oregon State

Last Year's Record: 8–5 (5–4 Pac-12), lost in the Sun Bowl

Final FBS Sickos Poll Ranking: 23rd

Anything New? New Conference basically, new coach, new QB and newly finished renovation of Reser Stadium

Sickos Forecast:  Warning - Really a mix and match of a schedule due to the Pac-12 essentially losing all but two of the members and we don’t know how much Oregon State returns since they lost so much.

Potential Sickos Game(s): They play six games on the CW. So all six of those games: Idaho State (same color scheme), Purdue, Colorado State, UNLV, San Jose State and the Pac-12 Title Game against Wazzu.

Distance to State’s Highest Mountain: 141 Miles northeast to Mount Hood.

Wazzu

Last Year's Record: 5–7 (2–7 Pac–12)

Final FBS Sickos Poll Ranking: 26th

Anything New? New Conference essentially, new QB but they kept their Head Coach but not Athletic Director who left for Washington in a move that was…. (REDACTED)… not really nice to Wazzu.

Sickos Forecast:  Warning - Really a mix and match of a schedule due to the Pac-12 essentially losing all but two of the members. Basically the same thing for Oregon State.

Potential Sickos Game(s): They play six games on the CW. So all six of those games: Portland State (Wazzu has been known to drop the opening game to FCS opponents sometimes), San Jose State, Hawaii, Utah State, at Oregon State and Wyoming.

Distance to State’s Highest Mountain: 290 miles nearly directly west to Mount Rainier.
