Welcome to the Sickos Committee’s Weather, Travel & Football Master Almanac Network aka the SCWTFMAN.

Here at the SCWTFMAN we will attempt to forecast the upcoming 2024 college football season by using our Sickos Committee alert system. We’re going to do this in the Famer’s Almanac style. If you don’t know what a Farmers' Almanac is, basically it provides long-range weather predictions for both the U.S. and Canada. We will be applying our forecast to all of Division I in the United States. We’re trying to predict what the upcoming season holds for all Division I teams in college football using our Sickos Committee Weather Alert System.

Will these previews be long winded and incredibly in depth? No. 

Will these previews be mostly based on “vibes” as assessed by the Sickos Committee weather forecasters? Yes. 

Basically, we’re going to try to assess the team as a Sickos Warning, Watch or Advisory, give you their record last year, provide a little blurb about the team and interesting schedule tidbits. This year we’re also adding a conference specific thing.

For the MAC, we were running low on cleverness. So, we decided to give you the distance from their stadium to a place where you could get a Big Mac.

Akron

Last Year's Record: 2-10 (1-7 MAC)

Final FBS Sickos Poll Ranking: 50th

Anything New? The Zips will look to replace THE UNDERCUFFLER at QB by bringing in Ben Finley, who started 2 games at Cal last year. Did you know there is an Estadio Akron near Guadalajara, Mexico?

Sickos Forecast: Warning - It’ll be a chaotic year as they try to snap their streak of 3 straight 2-10 seasons.

Potential Sickos Game(s): at Kent State, November 19. Last year’s Wagon Wheel game was the coming out party for THE UNDERCUFFLER, and we should get more havoc. Also, the other MACTION game on a Wednesday at Northern Illinois. They open at Ohio State and at Rutgers, home against Toothpaste aka Colgate and then at South Carolina. Get that money Zips.

Ball State

Last Year's Record: 4-8 (3-5 MAC)

Final FBS Sickos Poll Ranking: 120th

Anything New? Jared Elliot was elevated to offensive coordinator, he was the head coach at Western Illinois from 2018-21 (9-31).

Sickos Forecast: Watch - The middle of this conference is a mess, and Ball State will likely be in the center.

Potential Sickos Game(s): vs Northern Illinois, October 26. The last 5 matchups between these 2 have all been one-score games, should be a fun one for Ball State’s homecoming. November MACTION home against Miami (OH) and away at Buffalo.

Bowling Green

Last Year's Record: 7-6 (5-3 MAC), lost Quick Lane Bowl

Final FBS Sickos Poll Ranking: 78th

Anything New? They return 15 starters, but the WR room is very fresh, getting transfers from Auburn and Kansas State to take starting roles.

Sickos Forecast: Watch - They’re expected to take another step up this year… maybe enough for a MAC title game appearance?

Potential Sickos Game(s): vs Old Dominion, September 28. This is the first half of a home-and-home that won’t see BGSU visit Norfolk until 2031, good lord. November MACTION at Central Michigan and home to Western Michigan.

Buffalo

Last Year's Record: 3-9 (3-5 MAC)

Final FBS Sickos Poll Ranking: 121st

Anything New? Pete Lembo returns to the MAC to take over as head coach after going 33-29 at Ball State from 2011-15. Does Pete LemBUFFALO work as nickname? No? Sorry.

Sickos Forecast: Advisory - It will be a rebuilding year under the new HC, but they could surprise with their favorable schedule.

Potential Sickos Game(s): at Connecticut, September 28. This is the second game of UConn’s 6-game homestand, and should be competitive. November MACTION home to Ball State and at Eastern Michigan.

Nearest Big Mac: Sheridan Drive, Amherst, 2.3 miles away.

Central Michigan

Last Year's Record: 5-7 (3-5 MAC)

Final FBS Sickos Poll Ranking: 97th

Anything New? QB Joey Labas transfers in from Iowa, where his only start was the 2022 Music City Bowl against Kentucky. He’ll fight Bert Emanuel for the starting job.

Sickos Forecast: Warning - When a former Iowa QB has a chance to start, there will be some sicko-ness.

Potential Sickos Game(s): at FIU, September 7. The Chippewas have the privilege of playing the first game at Pitbull Stadium, Dale! November MACTION home to Bowling Green and at Toledo.

Nearest Big Mac: S Mission Street, Mt. Pleasant, 0.7 miles away.

Eastern Michigan

Last Year's Record: 6-7 (4-4 MAC), lost 68 Ventures Bowl

Final FBS Sickos Poll Ranking: 105th

Anything New? Cole Snyder transfers in after 2 seasons as Buffalo’s starting QB, including throwing for 2100 yards and 13 TDs last year. Also, the track is gone around the field, making the grey field more pronounced. Shout out to Max Crosby.

Sickos Forecast: Warning - They’re playing on a gray field in a stadium undergoing renovations this year, plenty sickos for us.

Potential Sickos Game(s): vs Jacksonville State, September 14. EMU got shut out by the Gamecocks last year on the road, can they adjust? November MACTION at Ohio and home to Buffalo.

Nearest Big Mac: Washtenaw Avenue, Ypsilanti, 1.4 miles away.

Kent State

Last Year's Record: 1-11 (0-8 MAC)

Final FBS Sickos Poll Ranking: 27th

Anything New? New coordinators on each side of the ball, grabbing Charlotte’s OC from 2019-22 and NDSU’s safeties coach from 2018-21.

Sickos Forecast: Watch - their offense will need to take a major step up if they want to improve.

Potential Sickos Game(s): Kent State’s RIDE TO HELL TOUR sees them visit Pitt, Tennessee and Penn State in their first four games this year, with a home game against St. Francis in between. November MACTION at Miami (OH) and home to Akron for the Wagon Wheel.

Miami (OH)

Last Year's Record: 11-3 (7-1 MAC), won MAC Title Game, lost Cure Bowl

Final FBS Sickos Poll Ranking: 49th

Anything New? Very little, as only 2 projected starters were added this offseason, those being a WR transfer from Michigan State and a CB transfer from Mississippi State.

Sickos Forecast: Advisory - They’ll have a real shot at another MAC title with all their returning production, including their great punter in Alec BEVELHEIMER (Ray Guy Semifinalist last year) and yes we’ve already beveled him.

Potential Sickos Game(s): at Northwestern, August 31. The Redhawks will be the first team to visit The Pillbox, and have a good chance at a P4 upset. November MACTION home to Kent State and Northern Illinois.

Nearest Big Mac: S Locust Street, Oxford, 1.6 miles away.

Northern Illinois

Last Year's Record: 7-6 (5-3 MAC), won Camellia Bowl

Final FBS Sickos Poll Ranking: 113th

Anything New? Jalen Macon transfers in after 2 years at Arkansas-Pine Bluff and will fight Ethan Hampton for the starting QB job.

Sickos Forecast: Watch - They could take another huge step up with 16 returning starters, but it will come down to QB play.

Potential Sickos Game(s): at Miami (OH), November 19. This Tuesday night MACtion special could play a huge role in who goes to the MAC championship game.

Ohio

Last Year's Record: 10-3 (6-2 MAC), won Myrtle Beach Bowl.

Final FBS Sickos Poll Ranking: 111th

Anything New? Their DC from last season left for Memphis, so they elevated safeties coach John Hauser, who spent 6 seasons as DC for their rival in Miami (OH).

Sickos Forecast: Watch - It will be tough to replicate a 10 win season with just 6 returning starters, could take time to gel.

Potential Sickos Game(s): vs South Alabama, September 7. MAC vs Sun Belt games always seem to be fun, and this one should be close throughout. November MACTION home against Eastern Michigan and at Toledo.

Nearest Big Mac: Richland Ave, Athens, 0.7 miles away.

Toledo

Last Year's Record: 11-3 (8-0 MAC), lost MAC Title Game, lost Arizona Bowl.

Final FBS Sickos Poll Ranking: 52nd

Anything New? The Rockets lost all 5 starting offensive linemen this offseason, including 3 named to All-MAC teams. 

Sickos Forecast: Watch - The early part of the season could be messy, but they should be in good shape come conference play.

Potential Sickos Game(s): at WKU, September 21. This is the start of a home-and-home, and should be a shootout as both teams have strong offenses year after year. Also, Battle of I-75 against Bowling Green is always wild.

Nearest Big Mac: Secor Road, Toledo, 2.0 miles away.

Western Michigan

Last Year's Record: 4-8 (3-5 MAC)

Final FBS Sickos Poll Ranking: 119th

Anything New? Walt Bell takes over at offensive coordinator after he led Indiana’s offense last year. He was also the HC at UMass from 2019-21 (2-24).

Sickos Forecast: Warning - This team has a lot of moving parts and could realistically finish anywhere between 3 and 9 wins. Also, bring back this BUSTER Bronco PLEASE!

Potential Sickos Game(s): Their last 2 games are against the other directional Michigan schools, and the finale hosting EMU could be a fight for a bowl berth. November MACTION at Bowling Green and at Central Michigan (please give us snow again)
