Welcome to the Sickos Committee’s Weather, Travel & Football Master Almanac Network aka the SCWTFMAN.

Here at the SCWTFMAN we will attempt to forecast the upcoming 2024 college football season by using our Sickos Committee alert system. We’re going to do this in the Famer’s Almanac style. If you don’t know what a Farmers' Almanac is, basically it provides long-range weather predictions for both the U.S. and Canada. We will be applying our forecast to all of Division I in the United States. We’re trying to predict what the upcoming season holds for all Division I teams in college football using our Sickos Committee Weather Alert System.

First we will preview the 129 FCS teams in a conference by conference breakdown over the next coming weeks. Then we will get to the FBS.

Will these previews be long winded and incredibly in depth? No. 

Will these previews be mostly based on “vibes” as assessed by the Sickos Committee weather forecasters? Yes. 

Basically, we’re going to try to assess the team as a Sickos Warning, Watch or Advisory, give you their record last year, provide a little blurb about the team and for the FCS version to possibly advise you of any of their games against the FBS and interesting schedule tidbits. This year we’re also adding a conference specific thing.

For the Northeast Conference (NEC) we tried to figure out who is closest to the most northeastern point of the United States. The northeastern most point of the U.S. is about 20 miles to the east, between the towns of Grand Isle and Van Buren, Maine.

The Northeast Conference

Central Connecticut

Where: New Britain, CT

Last Year's Record: 3-8 (1-6 NEC)

Why Should You Care: Central Connecticut won the NEC as recently as 2019 but slid to the bottom in 2023. Adam Lechtenberg will be starting his second year with the Blue Devils. (Yes, we have another Blue Devils in Division I)

Sickos Forecast:  Advisory - with some new teams in the conference, the Blue Devils might have a chance to make up some ground in year 2. 

Potential Sickos Game(s): at Central Michigan on August 29, at Yale on October 5

Distance to the Most Northeast Point of the US: 540 miles

Duquesne

Where: Pittsburgh, PA

Last Year's Record: 7-5 (6-1 NEC)

Why Should You Care: The Dukes ran through the NEC in 2023, dropping only one conference game to Stonehill, and made the FCS playoffs. Also, you could have this view of the stadium if you’re in a specific wing of the Duquesne Towers dorm.

Sickos Forecast:  Watch - Duquesne has a good chance of repeating their 2023 magic, plus they have a few fun FBS games. (the dorm to the right)

Potential Sickos Game(s): at Toledo on August 29, at Youngstown State on September 14

Distance to the Most Northeast Point of the US: 1000 miles.

LIU

Where: Brookville, NY

Last Year's Record: 4-7 (4-3 NEC)

Why Should You Care: Did you know that Ron Cooper, former head coach of Eastern Michigan, Louisville, and Alabama A&M is the head coach at LIU? Now you do. And remember their QB who threw with that submarine arm motion against Baylor last year?

Sickos Forecast:  Advisory - LIU was in the middle of the pack in the NEC last year, a big step up from recent performances. But they still need to be able to beat someone at the top, and they haven’t quite gotten there.

Potential Sickos Game(s): at TCU on September 7, at Wagner on November 23 for the NYC showdown. 

Distance to the Most Northeast Point of the US: 649 miles.

Robert Morris

Where: Moon Township, PA

Last Year's Record: 4-7 (2-4 Big South-OVC)

Why Should You Care: Bobby Mo is back in the NEC for football after a 3 year dalliance with the Big South.

Sickos Forecast:  Warning - I’m interested in seeing what 2-4 in the Big South looks like in the NEC.

Potential Sickos Game(s): at Utah State on August 31 and then back home for a game against D2 Edinboro’s Fightin’ Scots. Good lawd look at that logo.

Distance to the Most Northeast Point of the US: 1018 miles.

Saint Francis (PA)

Where: Loretto, PA

Last Year's Record: 4-6 (4-3 NEC) 

Why Should You Care: Did you know former Chicago Bears and Buffalo Bills guard Chris Villarrial is the head coach at Saint Francis? Now you do.

Sickos Forecast:  Watch - Saint Francis comes up and wins the NEC every few years, and they might be due. Warning for Frankie the Friar.

Potential Sickos Game(s): at Kent State on September 7 - they’re joining the Ride to Hell Tour at the Kent, OH stop.

Distance to the Most Northeast Point of the US: 926 miles.

Stonehill Skyhawks

Where: Easton, MA

Last Year's Record: 5-5 (4-3 NEC)

Why Should You Care: The Skyhawks will be entering their 3rd year of transition up from D2 in all sports. Although they’re still not eligible for the NEC title or the FCS playoffs (because of outdated NCAA bylaws), the 2023 Skyhawks were the only conference team to beat eventual NEC champs Duquesne.  Also, look at the mascot Ace!

Sickos Forecast:  Warning - we absolutely need an NEC champion but playoff ineligible Stonehill. 

Potential Sickos Game(s): at New Hampshire on September 14. An NEC upset over a CAA team would be beautiful. 

Distance to the Most Northeast Point of the US: 463 miles. (The Most Northeastern in the NEC)

Wagner 

Where: Staten Island, NY

Last Year's Record:  4-7 (3-4 NEC)

Why Should You Care: Wagner has gone from being 0-10 to a respectable 4-7 in just a few years. Their trajectory in the conference is on the rise, and they play on Staten Island, which is, in fact, the most New York of the boroughs. 

Sickos Forecast:  Watch - this is the kind of team that’s due for at least one wild win against an opponent with a better record. 

Potential Sickos Game(s): at FAU on September 28, vs. Columbia on October 12. That’s right the Ivy Leaguers are having to take the Staten Island ferry to Wagner.

Distance to the Most Northeast Point of the US: 647 miles.

Mercyhurst Lakers

Where: Erie, PA

Last Year's Record: 2-9 (1-6 PSAC)

Why Should You Care: One of the newest members of FCS/D1, the Lakers are moving up from D2 where they were struggling in an (admittedly very strong) PSAC. New teams to FCS are always fun, so that’s enough reason to watch a game or two. Meet Luke the Laker too!

Sickos Forecast:  Advisory - let’s see how they are getting their feet underneath them in the new conference and division. 

Potential Sickos Game(s): vs Lincoln (CA) on November 9. Lincoln are an independent college football team (in that they aren’t with the NCAA or NAIA or NJCAA or any of them), and they’re road warriors, playing every game on the road.
