Welcome to the Sickos Committee’s Weather, Travel & Football Master Almanac Network aka the SCWTFMAN.

Here at the SCWTFMAN we will attempt to forecast the upcoming 2024 college football season by using our Sickos Committee alert system. We’re going to do this in the Famer’s Almanac style. If you don’t know what a Farmers' Almanac is, basically it provides long-range weather predictions for both the U.S. and Canada. We will be applying our forecast to all of Division I in the United States. We’re trying to predict what the upcoming season holds for all Division I teams in college football using our Sickos Committee Weather Alert System.

Will these previews be long winded and incredibly in depth? No. 

Will these previews be mostly based on “vibes” as assessed by the Sickos Committee weather forecasters? Yes. 

Basically, we’re going to try to assess the team as a Sickos Warning, Watch or Advisory, give you their record last year, provide a little blurb about the team and interesting schedule tidbits. This year we’re also adding a conference specific thing.

Since the Big XII feels a little bit like a potential random number generator this year, we’re going to give you a random number ranking for the Big XII finish we generated for this preview.

The Big XII

Arizona

Last Year's Record: 10-3, 7-2 in the Pac-12, Alamo Bowl Champions

Final FBS Sickos Poll Ranking: 46th

Anything New? Arizona is coming off a great season under Jedd Fisch, but now they’re changing conferences and coaches. They snagged San Jose State’s head coach, Brent Brennan, and they’ve got ex-Syracuse head coach Dino Babers as their OC.

Sickos Forecast:  Warning - New conference, new staff, new everything. 

Potential Sickos Game(s): Sept. 13 - non-conference conference game at Kansas State. November 30 - first Big XII Territorial Cup vs. Arizona State.

Arizona State

Last Year's Record:  Record: 3-9, 2-7 in the Pac 12

Final FBS Sickos Poll Ranking: 68th (almost nice)

Anything New? The Sun Devils are in their second year under Kenny Dillingham. They’re still recovering from some really bad years, but they’re on an upward trajectory, theoretically.

Sickos Forecast:  Watch - New conference means anything is possible.

Potential Sickos Game(s):  August 31 - hosting Wyoming at night. September 7 - hosting Mississippi State at night. September 12 - going to San Marcos to play Texas State away?!

Baylor

Last Year's Record: 3-9, 2-7 in the Big XII

Final FBS Sickos Poll Ranking: 72nd

Anything New?  It’s still Dave Aranda as head coach, but they snagged Jake Spavital to run the offense, Cal’s OC and former Texas State head coach.

Sickos Forecast:  Watch - Looking forward to seeing if the offense can do something fun, at least.

Potential Sickos Game(s): Sept 7 - non-conference conference game against Utah. Also at Colorado and who knows what to expect there.

BYU

Last Year's Record: 5-7, 2-7 in the Big XII

Final FBS Sickos Poll Ranking:  81st

Anything New? BYU lost their last 5 in 2023 after winning 5 of their first 7, their first losing season since 2017. Was it first time jitters in the Big XII, or a sign of things to come?

Sickos Forecast:  Watch - We’re waiting to see if the Cougars can carry early season momentum to the end this year.

Potential Sickos Game(s): September 14 - at Wyoming, which is always a wild place to play. November 9 - at Utah, in conference Holy War.

Cincinnati

Last Year's Record: 3–9 (1–8 Big 12)

Final FBS Sickos Poll Ranking: 89th 

Anything New? Scott Satterfield’s first season was not what the Bearcats wanted in the Big XII, but with all the shuffling going on, they’ve got a shot to improve. Tyson Veidt joins the staff as co-DC from Iowa State.

Sickos Forecast:  Watch - They’ve got a lot of outgoing and incoming transfers, so this will be a very different team from last year. 

Potential Sickos Game(s): September 14 - at Miami (OH) for the Victory Bell, October 26 at Colorado for the first time since 1972.

Colorado

Last Year's Record:  4-8, 1-8 in the Pac 12

Final FBS Sickos Poll Ranking: 3rd

Anything New? A lot. I think 41 transfers in and 40 transfers out, or was it 40 transfers in and 41 transfers out?

Sickos Forecast:  REDACTED - It’s really tough to have an opinion online about Colorado.

Potential Sickos Game(s): Maybe the entire schedule?

Houston

Last Year's Record:  4-8, 2-7 in the Big XII

Final FBS Sickos Poll Ranking: 87th

Anything New? First-year head coach Willie Fritz is fresh off great seasons at Tulane. Can he make the same magic happen further up I-10?

Sickos Forecast:  Warning - Coogs gonna coog.

Potential Sickos Game(s): September 16 - versus Rice for the Bayou Bucket. That game went to 2OTs last year, with Rice winning 43-41.

Random Number Generator Big XII Final Ranking: 6th

Iowa State

Last Year's Record:  7-6, 6-3 in the Big XII, lost in the Liberty Bowl against Memphis, who plays in the Liberty Bowl.

Final FBS Sickos Poll Ranking: 30th

Anything New? While Matt Campbell is still there (really), they’re on their third OC in three seasons due to Nathan Scheelhaase moving on to the LA Rams. Taylor Mouser, who’s been at Iowa State since 2016 in various roles, takes over as OC.

Sickos Forecast:  Watch - If they beat Iowa in Week 2, the momentum carries them well through a wild Big XII ride.

Potential Sickos Game(s): vs. North Dakota Regular on August 31, at Iowa on September 7.

Random Number Generator Big XII Final Ranking: 11th

Kansas

Last Year's Record:  9-4, 5-4 in the Big XII, winner of the Guaranteed Rate Bowl.

Final FBS Sickos Poll Ranking: 44th

Anything New? New faces on both sides of the ball, including Jeff Grimes as co-OC (coming from Baylor) and DK McDonald as co-DC (coming from Iowa State by way of the Philadelphia Eagles). Also, Kansas is playing all of their games in Kansas City, 40 miles from campus.

Sickos Forecast:  Warning - playing every game 40 miles away is likely to create some truly random number generator-style results.

Potential Sickos Game(s): at Illinois on September 7, vs. UNLV on September 13, at Kansas State on October 26.

Kansas State

Last Year's Record:  9-4, 6-3 in the Big XII, winner of the Pop Tarts Bowl and tasted the body of Strawberry.

Final FBS Sickos Poll Ranking: 98th

Anything New? Big hire on the offensive side of the ball - former Utah State and Texas Tech head coach Matt Wells is taking over the offense.

Sickos Forecast:  Watch - they will absolutely bludgeon some Big XII teams, and it will be delightful to watch. 

Potential Sickos Game(s): at Tulane on September 7 (a true Sickos classic), vs. Arizona in a non-conference Friday night conference game on September 13th, vs. road warriors Kansas on October 26.

Oklahoma State

Last Year's Record:  10-4, 7-2 in the Big XII, winner of the Texas Bowl.

Final FBS Sickos Poll Ranking: 12th

Anything New? The feeling is that they won’t try a 3 QB system like they started with last year, so that’s definitely new. 7th year senior Alan Bowman looks like he’ll get the starting job on Day 1… which of course, is a game against back to back FCS champs South Dakota State.

Sickos Forecast:  Warning - I mean, they play South Dakota State Week 1, anything else I say is just going to add to the warning.

Potential Sickos Game(s): vs. FCS Champs South Dakota State on August 31, vs. Arkansas on September 7

TCU

Last Year's Record: 5-7,  3-6 in the Big XII

Final FBS Sickos Poll Ranking: 77th

Anything New? God, I hope so. They’re bringing in former Boise State head coach Andy Avalos to try and fix the defense that got them run and passed all over last year. 

Sickos Forecast:  Advisory - I’m going to need to see some signs of life from the Frogs before I’m willing to bump them up. 

Potential Sickos Game(s): at ACC power Stanford on August 30, at SMU on September 21 (IRON SKILLET), at Baylor on November 2.

Texas Tech

Last Year's Record:  7-6, 5-4 in the Big XII, Winner of the glorious crown jewel of Shreveport, the Independence Bowl. (what a majestic picture)

Final FBS Sickos Poll Ranking: 102nd

Anything New? Lots of the same stuff that was just starting to click for the Red Raiders. They’ll bring back starting QB Behren Morton who led the team for most of 2023.

Sickos Forecast: Watch - this team has a real chance to break through the middle of the pack and end up towards the top of the new Big XII. 

Potential Sickos Game(s): at Washington State on September 7, vs. West Virginia on November 30

UCF

Last Year's Record:  6-7, 3-6 in the Big XII, lost in the Gasparilla Bowl.

Final FBS Sickos Poll Ranking: 71st

Anything New? Tim Harris Jr. is back at UCF as Offensive coordinator after spending a year at Miami as their RB coach. Harris had previous been at UCF as co-OC in the 21-22 season. 

Sickos Forecast:  Watch - this is another team that wants to break out of the middle of the Big XII, and they’ve got some good opportunities to do it.

Potential Sickos Game(s): at Florida on October 5. 

Random Number Generator Big XII Final Ranking: 8th

Utah

Last Year's Record:  8-5, 5-4 in the Pac-12, lost in the Las Vegas Bowl.

Final FBS Sickos Poll Ranking: 93rd

Anything New? A brand new conference with the same staff that’s been at Utah for a decade. They are looking forward to bringing the rock fight to any Big XII teams who want to try that fancy “scoring points” stuff. Kyle Wittingham has no time for such frivolities. 

Sickos Forecast:  Warning - they want to win the Big XII their first year, and they’ve got the stuff to make it happen. 

Potential Sickos Game(s): vs. Baylor in a non-conference conference game on September 7, vs. BYU on November 9 (last game was in 2021, so there’s a lot of built up bad blood).

Random Number Generator Big XII Final Ranking: 7th

West Virginia

Last Year's Record:  9-4, 6-3 in the Big XII, winner of the MAYO BOWL. Look at Neil Brown in all that fabulous Duke’s Mayo.

Final FBS Sickos Poll Ranking: 61st

Anything New? A rapidly cooling seat for head coach Neal Brown. 

Sickos Forecast:  Warning - the Mountaineers are my pick for “random outcome generator” in the Big XII this year.

Potential Sickos Game(s): vs. Penn State on August 31, at Pitt (Backyard Brawl) on September 14, at Arizona on October 26 (across the country for a conference game)
