The Sickos Committee’s Weather Travel and Football Master Almanac Network aka the SCWTFMAN - The American

Welcome to the Sickos Committee’s Weather, Travel & Football Master Almanac Network aka the SCWTFMAN.

Here at the SCWTFMAN we will attempt to forecast the upcoming 2024 college football season by using our Sickos Committee alert system. We’re going to do this in the Famer’s Almanac style. If you don’t know what a Farmers' Almanac is, basically it provides long-range weather predictions for both the U.S. and Canada. We will be applying our forecast to all of Division I in the United States. We’re trying to predict what the upcoming season holds for all Division I teams in college football using our Sickos Committee Weather Alert System.

First we will preview the 129 FCS teams in a conference by conference breakdown over the next coming weeks. Then we will get to the FBS.

Will these previews be long winded and incredibly in depth? No.

Will these previews be mostly based on “vibes” as assessed by the Sickos Committee weather forecasters? Yes.

Basically, we’re going to try to assess the team as a Sickos Warning, Watch or Advisory, give you their record last year, provide a little blurb about the team and for the FCS version to possibly advise you of any of their games against the FBS and interesting schedule tidbits. This year we’re also adding a conference specific thing.

For the American, we’re going to give you the distance from the school to the nearest location Lee Greenwood has sang God Bless the USA according to setlist.fm too. This is only because I was curious on who was more Proud to be an American.

The American Athletic Conference

Army

Last Year's Record: 6-6 (Independent)

Final FBS Sickos Poll Ranking: 65th

Anything New? The Black Knights join the AAC after 19 seasons as an independent. They now share a conference with Navy, but their matchup will remain a non-conference game.

Sickos Forecast: Warning - The committee loves any triple-option team, and Army is expected to run the ball even more this year.

Potential Sickos Game(s): vs Air Force, November 2. Army forced 6 turnovers when they beat AF on the road last season, expect more chaos. Also, three straight games vs Owls. At FAU, bye week, welcome in Rice and at Temple.

Nearest God Bless the USA: Yankee Stadium, Bronx, NY, 47 miles away.

Charlotte

Last Year's Record: 3-9 (2-6 AAC)

Final FBS Sickos Poll Ranking: 64th

Anything New? Charlotte brings in a couple Power 4 transfers at key positions, getting QB Max Brown from Florida and Punter Michael O’Shaughnessy from Michigan State.

Sickos Forecast: Warning - As long as Biff Poggi is their head coach, they’re a warning. We’re big Biff backers.

Potential Sickos Game(s): vs East Carolina, October 5. The 49ers won an ugly one at ECU last season 10-7, allowing only 127 yards. They finish with three out of their last four at home but could be tough to get a win against Tulane, South Florida, but at FAU and home to UAB could be quite interesting.

Nearest God Bless the USA: Charlotte Motor Speedway, Concord, NC, 4.7 miles away.

East Carolina

Last Year's Record: 2-10 (1-7 AAC)

Final FBS Sickos Poll Ranking: 86th

Anything New? ECU’s new offensive coordinator is John David Baker, who spent the last 3 seasons as the co-coordinator for the high powered offense of Ole Miss. Also, they’ve got stripes on their Purple pants now!

Sickos Forecast: Watch - Last year was an rough falloff, we’ll see if the Pirates can turn it around with a new scheme on offense.

Potential Sickos Game(s): vs Appalachian State, September 14. Getting major shootout vibes if ECU’s offense is clicking. They’ve got winnable games in nearly every matchup in October and November.

Nearest God Bless the USA: Town Point Park, Norfolk, VA, 123 miles away.

Florida Atlantic

Last Year's Record: 4-8 (3-5 AAC)

Final FBS Sickos Poll Ranking: 132

Anything New? Cam Fancher started 11 games at QB for Marshall last year, and is expected to start in Boca Raton this year.

Opinion: Writing about Owlsley shouldn't be this difficult – UNIVERSITY PRESS

Sickos Forecast: Advisory - They should be a well improved group and a balanced team on both sides.

Potential Sickos Game(s): vs Army, September 7. Could be a slugfest if Army’s option struggles in the heat. Then against FIU and at UConn have the Committee’s eyes.

Nearest God Bless the USA: Pleasure Island, Lake Buena Vista, FL, 187 miles away.

Memphis

Last Year's Record: 10-3 (6-2 AAC), Liberty Bowl Champs

Final FBS Sickos Poll Ranking: 134th (dead last) They were crazy last year too!

Anything New? Jordan Hankins has been elevated to defensive coordinator after 3 years at LB coach.

Sickos Forecast: Advisory - Memphis was the lowest ranked FBS team in our final Sickos poll last year, and should be low again. Maybe? But they are primed for a Conference title run.

Potential Sickos Game(s): At USF, October 11. Could get a fun shootout under the Friday night lights. At Tulane to end the year and this game tends to get crazy.

Nearest God Bless the USA: Shiloh National Military Park, Shiloh, TN, 107 miles away.

Navy

Last Year's Record: 5-7 (4-4 AAC)

Final FBS Sickos Poll Ranking: 92nd

Anything New? Drew Cronic enters as offensive coordinator after 4 years as the head coach of Mercer, leading them to their first FCS playoff berth last season.

Sickos Forecast: Watch - They’ve slowly been passing the ball more in recent years, we’ll see if the new OC continues that.

Potential Sickos Game(s): At Rice, November 2. A long road trip after facing Notre Dame could be tough. Of course Army/Navy as a fun non-conference but conference game.

Nearest God Bless the USA: Merriweather Post Pavilion, Columbia, MD, 31 miles away.

North Texas

Last Year's Record: 5-7 (3-5 AAC)

Final FBS Sickos Poll Ranking: 116th

Anything New? Projected starting QB Chandler Morris transfers in from TCU, where he started the first 6 games last year (12 TD, 5 INT).

Sickos Forecast: Watch - The Mean Green should hover around bowl eligibility, could come down to some coin-flip games.

Potential Sickos Game(s): vs Wyoming, September 21. The first meeting between these schools could be a slugfest.

Nearest God Bless the USA: Malachite Showroom, Addison, TX, 29 miles away.

Rice

Last Year's Record: 6-7 (4-4 AAC), lost First Responder Bowl

Final FBS Sickos Poll Ranking: 85th

Anything New? The Owls add a rare in-conference transfer QB, getting EJ Warner who threw for over 3000 yards last year at Temple. FROM ONE OWL TO ANOTHER.

Sickos Forecast: Warning - This should be a very fun offense that puts up a ton of passing yards.

Potential Sickos Game(s): vs Houston, September 14. Rice won the Bayou Bucket in a double OT thriller last year without scoring in the second half, can they keep the trophy? Honestly can’t believe they don’t play any other Owls in conference.

Nearest God Bless the USA: NRG Stadium, Houston, TX, 2.9 miles away.

South Florida

Last Year's Record: 7-6 (4-4 AAC), Boca Raton Bowl Champs

Final FBS Sickos Poll Ranking: 58th

Anything New? USF will break ground on a new on-campus stadium as part of homecoming weekend. It’s projected to open in 2026. OOOOOO STADIUM RENDERINGS.

Who will build USF football's $340 million on-campus stadium?

Sickos Forecast: Warning - The Bulls like to get into shootouts, and points should be flowing throughout the season.

Potential Sickos Game(s): At FAU, November 1. This one has the makings of a Friday night thriller.

Nearest God Bless the USA: Stanleyville Theater, Tampa, FL, 10 miles away.

Temple

Last Year's Record: 3-9 (1-7 AAC)

Final FBS Sickos Poll Ranking: 91th

Anything New? Evan Simon started two games at QB for Rutgers in 2022, was a backup last year, and transfers here to start for the Owls.

Sickos Forecast: Watch - Can they improve enough to snap a streak of three straight 3-9 seasons?

Potential Sickos Game(s): vs Utah State, September 21. This would be a strong non-conference win over a decent Mountain West team.

Nearest God Bless the USA: The Spectrum, Philadelphia, PA, 0.7 miles away.

Tulane

Last Year's Record: 11-3 (8-1 AAC), lost AAC Title Game & Military Bowl

Final FBS Sickos Poll Ranking: 41st

Anything New? Jon Sumrall takes over for Willie Fritz after two very strong years at Troy (23-4). Also, they’re JUICED!

Image

Sickos Forecast: Watch - The Green Wave should still be strong, but the transition to a new coach could be interesting to watch.

Potential Sickos Game(s): at Louisiana, September 21. This is somehow the first regular season meeting between the 2, and should be a great environment after the battle over beer prices took place in the summer.

Nearest God Bless the USA: Mercedes-Benz Superdome, New Orleans, LA, 3.5 miles away.

Tulsa

Last Year's Record: 4-8 (2-6 AAC)

Final FBS Sickos Poll Ranking: 129th

Anything New? Lots of turnover on defense, including P4 transfers at all 3 linebacker positions, grabbing defenders from USC, Indiana and Kansas.

Sickos Forecast: Watch - They’ll need to improve on defense if they wanna make any real noise this year.

Potential Sickos Game(s): at Louisiana Tech, September 21. This feels like it could be a complete shootout or full defensive struggle, with no in-between.

Nearest God Bless the USA: Chapman Commons, Tulsa, OK, 0.1 miles away (Right next door to the stadium!)

UAB

Last Year's Record: 4-8 (3-5 AAC)

Final FBS Sickos Poll Ranking: 125th

Anything New? Their secondary gets a complete makeover, with no returning starters and transfers from Minnesota, Clemson & Georgia Tech to fill some roles.

Sickos Forecast: Warning - Trent Dilfer’s squad should get into more than a few shootouts this season.

Potential Sickos Game(s): at Army, October 12. The pass-heavy Blazers take on the triple-option Black Knights in a fun contrast of styles.

Nearest God Bless the USA: Oxford Performing Arts Center, Oxford, AL, 61 miles away.

UTSA

Last Year's Record: 9-4 (7-1 AAC), Frisco Bowl Champs

Final FBS Sickos Poll Ranking: 112th

Anything New? Owen McCown (Josh’s son) will be the Roadrunners’ starting QB this year, trying to fill the shoes of the great Frank Harris.

Sickos Forecast: Watch - It’s tough to replace a program great at QB, but UTSA should still be meepin’ fun to watch.

Potential Sickos Game(s): at Texas State, September 7. These 2 last met in a 51-48 2OT thriller to start 2020, should be in for more fireworks. Also, THE OWL GAUNLET, UTSA PLAYS ALL FBS OWLS.
