The Sickos Committee Weekly Food Fusions - Week 4 Edition - Temple at Georgia Tech

Here at the Sickos Committee, we’re big fans of weird ballpark and stadium food combinations. We love the gigantic portions or weird combinations of food and even things that seem really humanly impossible to eat while seated for a game. So in that spirit, our resident weird food connoisseur, the Corn Correspondent (Corn-espondent, as so many of you wish we called it, but damn it is too difficult to say out loud), Andy, will be doing a weekly food blog where he combines ingredients from two different teams randomly selected each week and gives you the recipe here each Friday during the season. Here is the Week Four Edition.

The Sickos Committee Weekly Food Fusions

Magic City of Brotherly Love

Temple at Georgia Tech

Two campuses located in major cities of their state. Two schools often overlooked by another school. Temple is leaving their home town of Pennsylvania to come down to Atlanta. The last, and only, time they’ve met up was in 2019. Temple gave the Yellowjackets a righteous beatdown, winning 24-2 (Safety Alert!). I think it’s safe to assume that Georgia Tech would like to prevent that from happening again. Anyway, onto the food.

I had a few options that I could have done here. I could have figured out a way to combine scrapple and Waffle House….maybe a Scrapple House? Or I could have combined Philadelphia’s famous soft pretzels with a pimento cheese dip. That would have been good. I still might do that!

But then I was thinking more about what are some good football foods. What are you always happy to see at a watch party? What about chicken wings and sandwiches? Well, readers. Let me give you the…

Lemon Pepper Wet Chicken Philly

The recipe for this was pretty easy to throw together. I didn’t even have to search the internet for a recipe. I guess I could have if I wanted to make my own lemon pepper seasoning but I decided to let the pros do it for me.

You need:

  • Boneless skinless chicken breasts

  • 1 white onion

  • 1 red bell pepper

  • 1 orange bell pepper

  • Lemon pepper seasoning

  • Buffalo wing sauce

  • Provolone cheese (not pictured)

  • Sandwich rolls

Ingredients listed above except the provolone cheese, because the provolone wanted to be alone.

You can cut the chicken breast however you’d like. Thin slices would work great for this, but I opted for bite sized chunks instead. After you have them cut up, season liberally with lemon pepper and set aside while you thinly slice the onion and bell peppers. After your vegetables are sliced, it’s time to cook the chicken. People smarter than me would say to cook the chicken in batches to avoid overcrowding the fan, but I’ve never been good at doing that so I threw it all in the pan together. Just a note for an easy upgrade to this sandwich.

Seasoning that chicken

Searing that chicken

After the chicken is cooked all the way through, transfer to a clean bowl and give it a good dose of buffalo sauce. I didn’t measure anything here, just add whatever feels right. Toss well to combine it all together and set it aside while you cook the veggies in a couple tablespoons of butter. When the vegetables are soft and the onions have started to turn translucent, add the chicken and sauce back into the pan mixing to combine.

Sautee-ing da peppers

Hey its the peppers and chicken together

The Provolone finally decided to come outside of their room

This mixture is enough to make 4-6 sandwiches so portion out however much you want to put in one roll and top with some provolone cheese. You can’t have a Philly without cheese! As the cheese is starting to melt, cover with a split bun, serve, and enjoy!

The finished product

Readers, this sandwich was so good. The lemon pepper chicken mixed with the savoriness of a sandwich was all I wanted. As soon as I finished eating it, I messaged Commish saying I was about to make a second one!

Stay tuned for next week for another food combo based on the CFB schedule.
