Our social media accounts can be a fire-hose of information and unlike us, you probably have lives outside of being logged on. So, I figured I would start compiling some fun things we see week to week to keep you updated on fun things that really may or may not change your life. We shall call it News You Probably Can’t Use.

My goal is to try to do this one time per week along with the other weird stuff I will write on Mondays or other days. Will I cover everything we post? No, that’s impossible, and I cannot even keep up with that, even though I try my best. Is this going to contain breaking news? Not at the moment. But if anyone wants to break news with us? Email us, please.

Say Hello to the Lewis and Clark River Otters

The Division III school recently voted to change their mascot from the Pioneers to the River Otters. About 6,475 ballots were cast: 1,820 from students, 489 from employees, and 4,166 from alumni and trustees. They had choices of Cascades, Herons, Lynx, Mammoths, Pronghorns, River Otters, Riverhawks, and Timberwolves. (People of Oregon must love Minnesota-based professional basketball teams.)

The River Otters won, and I think they made the right choice.

DIII CURRY COLLEGE IS GOING TO PURPLE TURF!

You may have opinions on colored turf. We here at the committee appreciate different color turf fields. This one is going to be a multi-sport field and will have many different color lines.

The new field at Curry College

The best part about this one is that Curry College made an April Fools' joke about doing this very thing. Now it is going to become reality. Awesome, Curry College. They must know our rule about if we like your April Fools’ joke, you have to do it.

BIG COMMIT TO THE GUELPH GRYPHONS

Instagram post

On the surface, there is an Assmann joke about Kyle. But here in the Sickos Committee, we dig through the cracks and try to find more information. Our intrepid followers noted there was another Assmann. This isn’t a common name and this led me to find out if they were related.

Charles Assmann playing for Edmonton in the CFL

Charles Assmann played for Hamilton, Toronto, Edmonton, Calgary, and Ottawa in the CFL. I also noted that Charles played for the Guelph in college. Then another follower noted Chuck coached at CCVI in Guelph, and this was Kyle’s high school. Was Kyle the son of Charles? The elder Assmann was a linebacker, long snapper, and hey, Kyle was a linebacker, long snapper, and kicker too. I couldn’t confirm by an internet search. So I asked on the Instagram post above of Kyle. Maybe I will get an answer there. And you bet your ass I will update this post if I find out the answer.

You can buy this card for $12.99 on Ebay, the script of Assmann is killing me. I may have to buy it.

Demolition of Aloha Stadium has finally started

After a long, six-year journey, demolition work outside Aloha Stadium started on Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2026. Aloha Stadium was condemned and Hawaii football has been using the Clarence T. C. Ching Athletics Complex for the time being as their home stadium. Aloha Stadium was condemned as unsafe in December 2020. More than five years later, they’ve finally started exterior demolition.

The new stadium is expected to hold 31,000 seats, up from 22,000. And it’ll be individual seats instead of benches. There will be at least 28 luxury boxes – up from about 10. And an 11,000 square foot clubhouse for press conferences and other events.

There’s also potentially 4,500 housing units, mixed-use retail, and two hotels. Which is pending approval by the Stadium Authority next month. Scheduled completion is not until March 2029. Yeah, that is still a long way away.

The classic subject to change rendering of what it will look like when completed.

CHICAGO STATE HAS GOT THEIR SCHEDULE!!!

Chicago State is creating a new FCS Football team starting this year. This is basically out of the blue for them too and on a short timeline. They announced they would have a team on December 18th, 2025! This is pretty crazy to do this but they have got their schedule.

Chicago State’s schedule.

It’s a pretty impressive turnaround time to get all this set up and only have your first ever signing class on February 4, 2026. (They signed 54).

It’s impressive to me they got a stadium, signing class and schedule in about 2 months.

Do we know how they will do in their first year of existence? Not really. That really doesn’t matter. More football for us to watch!

They’ll host their 5 home games at Seat Geek Stadium in Bridgeview, Illinois.

Well, that is all for now. Hope you appreciate the Sickos News You Can’t Probably Use.
