It’s the college football off-season, and I have been doing some fun things in the world of football, aka soccer. We just completed a fun and free series on our Patreon where I picked a new Bundesliga soccer team to support with the help of our friends at 50 Plus Doner (I linked their Twitch channel; they are always a fun watch; they have Instagram and Bluesky too) in the Bundesliga Bachelor.
We just dropped Episode 2 of the NWSL Bachelor today, where I am trying to find an NWSL team to support. We’ve had Jordan Angeli on Episode 1, along with Douglas Reyes-Ceron from KickbackSoccer.com, and then added André Carlisle from www.thedistrictpress.com in Episode 2.
As Commish, I like to involve my family and weigh their opinions on kits, crests, players, and cities to help me make my determination on what team I want to support. This time, my nearly 9-year-old son really loved the NWSL kits, so I sat him down, had him pick his favorites, and give me a reason why he ranked the kits this way. There are 16 teams, and I had him pick his favorite kit for each team and then rank them. He ranked 17 kits, so one team is in here twice. Also, I’ll add some of my opinions in here too. Much to my surprise, he didn’t pick too many of the new NWSL kits this year.

Yes, my kiddo picked this font for his article.
17. Seattle Reign - Reflection Kit

This is the 2025 Version and I think this will be updated
The kiddo stated “Reminds me of an old soccer ball I used to have” and that’s why he picked it here. I am a big fan of the color and clean look on this one.
16. NC Courage - "The Belong Kit"

NC Courage Belong Kit
The kiddo said “Reminds me of an old Arsenal Jersey” - which is a pretty fair assessment. Random geometric patterns are always a great kit choice.
15. Washington Spirit - Cherry Blossom Kit

Business is BLOOMing
The kiddo just said “Reminds me of the time we went to the Japanese Tea Gardens in San Antonio.” I mean a really accurate statement but we differ here on the ranking. These are really really really good and they did a great job incorporating the cherry blossoms.
14. Orlando Pride - The Unity Kit

Fantastic story behind these kits and just a eye pleasing kit here.
“I like the blended color pattern.” Read the story behind these kits here. This is a great kit to be in the state of Florida. This just vibes with the entire region and area.
13. Bay FC - White Secondary Kit

The Bay FC White Kit
“It’s like baseball and I see some baseball stripes.” He just started his baseball season and this is all he can think about right now. He was not a fan of the really good Poppy Kits. I like the Poppy ones more and I don’t want to be reminded of baseball since I am a Pittsburgh Pirates fan. Don’t worry I blame my father being from Pittsburgh cursing me with this affliction of Pirates fandom.
12. Portland Thorns - Electric Bloom Kit

Sophia Wilson rocking the Electric Bloom
“Looks like a tropical paradise with all the flowers, like a rainforest or something” - my 9 year old. I will note, this one is my wife’s favorite kit this year. She said this was the best kit this year and it was not even close. So you got my wife here Portland fans.
11. Racing Louisville Disco Kit

The Disco Kit coming to a local roller rink near you.
“It reminds me of Mardi Gras, except there is no yellow.” I guess Mardi Gras could be a disco of some sort. The kit is a good one and this really looked like a really fun kit photo shoot. Nicely done Racing Louisville.
10. Angel City - The Flare Kit

The Flare Kit even makes Doordash look good here.
We go to the kiddo for comment - “It reminds me of Inter Miami and I likes Messi, but I like Ronaldo, Messi, Neymar, Pele and all the players.” It’s crazy as the kiddo is a Messi fan but there are so many Ronaldo fans in his 3rd grade class, he tries to avoid all the debates. I wonder if he could host First Take - 3rd Grade.
9. Houston Dash - Cosmic Storm Alternate Kit

Talk about a Cosmic Storm
“Reminds me of an Enderman in Minecraft” - the kiddo. Don’t worry I linked a picture of what an Enderman is for you. Funny thing, my three year old accidentally rented the Minecraft movie by just tapping the remote. So yeah I paid $20 to watch the Minecraft movie and you better believe I edited the setting not allowing the 3 year old to order anything else. I learned my lesson. One final thing from the kiddo here. “Don’t look an Enderman in the eye, it will attack you.” I think I prefer the new Chronicles kit. Something about light blue and Houston just goes so well.
8. Seattle Reign - The RISE Kit

“It’s like the sun rays.” Two Seattle kits here on the rankings much to my surprise. He didn’t like the new Surge Kit.
7. KC Current - Red Primary Kit

The Classic Red
I really thought the kiddo was going for the new KC Current Storm Kit due to the font choice he made for the entire post here, but if you know me or my family, we really ride for our favorite colors. His favorite color is RED. This is the only red kit in the NWSL too, so he had to pick this one. “It's my favorite color, and I like the pattern.”
6. San Diego Wave - Altamar Kit

The Altamar Wave FC Kit
“I like it because it looks like the really deep ocean.” I don’t have much to add but I will just throw in a reference to LL Cool J’s Deepest Bluest song from the movie Deep Blue Sea. His hat is like a shark fin.
5. Utah Royals - Swarm Kit

THE SWARM - from the Beehive State
“There is a lion on the jersey and the color of the words is nice.” Bees surround the club’s lioness crest, honoring Utah’s identity as the Beehive state. You’d think that Utah would have a lot of beehives, but that is evidently not the case. Apparently North Dakota, South Dakota and California lead the way in bees in the U.S. Anyway, nice kit Utah and you put an animal on a kit, the kiddo is going to love it.
4. Gotham - Lady Liberty Kit

Just wanted to get a picture in here with the line “Designed to stand out on the pitch and in the streets”
“I like the colors of each layer and, of course, the Statue of Liberty.” I like this kit a good bit myself, but sometimes I get a magic eye picture vibe from the Statue of Liberty portion.
3. Boston Legacy - Common Ground Kit

The tag line with this one is “23 neighborhoods. One Common Ground”
“This is like a combination of paintball and Into the Spider-Verse.” The kiddo loved watching Into the Spider-Verse when he was a little younger, and I really can see the glitches from the movie in this kit. I like what Boston Legacy is going for here with the kit.
2. Denver Summit - Home Kit

Denver Summit’s first ever home kit.
“It looks like Tulane and I like the mountains.” I don’t know if Denver was trying to match Tulane’s colors but going with the best color combinations in all of college football, isn’t a bad choice at all. Also, you don’t want to make the Angry Wave even more angry.
1. Chicago Stars - Secondary Kit

Chicago Stars away kit mentioned “relentless intensity”
“Love the black drippy liquid. Also, the red outline, it’s my favorite color.” Love the write-up for this kit. “This sleek, dark design features striking liquid metal patterns that symbolize our relentless intensity and adaptability. Perfect for all supporters, this jersey transforms you into part of the indomitable force that refuses to back down, no matter where the game takes us.” Some clubs name their kits, and I couldn’t find a name for this one anywhere. So, it’s the Metal Gear Liquid kit for me.
Thank you for reading this silly kit ranking. Listen to the NWSL Bachelor (Episode 1 here) and join our Patreon too, either for free or send a couple of bucks our way. We have a couple of new college football-based podcasts going there behind the paywall (the 47-game winless streak for Columbia) and a few more series coming in the offseason, along with my Red Card Report, recapping all the red cards from around the world each week. And the finale of the NWSL Bachelor, coming next week.
