The Second Round of the 2026 US Open Cup played out last week as 25 teams from the lower divisions of US professional soccer and the seven remaining amateur squads faced off for the chance to play one of the sixteen MLS teams entering the bracket in the next round.
The action kicked off Tuesday night as the Pittsburgh Riverhounds of the USL Championship came off a short turnaround from their makeup game the previous week to defeat the UPSL’s Virginia Dream FC, 2-0. The UPSL’s scoreless woes continued as USL-1 team FC Naples blanked FC America CFL Spurs 3-0, including a first-minute penalty kick goal. Despite the early deficit, the underdogs proved a tough opponent until a red card just before halftime pushed their chances at a comeback out of reach.
Committee hometown team Union Omaha of USL-1 scored the first Cupset of the round by defeating Indy Eleven of the USL Championship 2-1, marking the fourth straight year the Owls have advanced to at least the Third Round, and the sixth time they have eliminated a higher division team during that stretch.
The Cupsets continued with another USL League 1 over Championship win as Charlotte Independence came back from 2 down to defeat Charleston Battery 3-2 after extra time. Late tuesday night, USL-C squad Sacramento Republic FC blanked Valley 559 FC of UPSL 4-0.
The highest drama of the night came when USL-2 side Asheville City SC hosted One Knoxville SC of USL League 1. The favorites from Tennessee took a 1-0 lead into halftime, but drew a red card early in the second half. Asheville was able to ride the man advantage to an equalizer in the 66th minute, but were unable to score a second. One Knoxville’s Teddy Baker received the team’s second red card of the match for yellow card accumulation just before the end of regulation for throwing an ELBOW, allowing Asheville to dominate possession throughout the 30 minutes of extra time. Knoxville keeper played hero all night long, logging 11 saves to keep the game level and send the match into a penalty kick shootout where he made another three. One Knoxville advanced 3-2 on penalties.
Wednesday afternoon saw the last MLS NextPro team in the tournament, Chattanooga FC, beat Tennessee Tempo of UPSL 1-0. The Richmond Kickers (USL-1) scored Wednesday’s lone Cupset when they hosted USL Championship side Loudoun United FC and squeezed a stoppage time goal into a 1-0 victory. Rhode Island FC was victorious over Hartford Athletic in a matchup of USL Championship sides, taking an early two goal lead and holding the visitors from Connecticut scoreless. USL-2 squad Vermont Green FC held visiting favorites Westchester SC of USL-1 to a scoreless draw after extra time, before falling 4-3 in penalty kicks.
A duel of Kentucky USL Championship squads saw Louisville City FC defeat Lexington Sporting Club, scoring in the 20th minute and doubling their lead to the game out of reach 30 minutes later. Flint City Bucks of USL-2, winners of arguably the biggest cupset of the first round, were unable to keep that momentum going against Detroit City FC (USL-C) and fell, 1-0.

Men, You've Been Misinformed
Men's skin is about 25% thicker than women's, but thicker skin doesn't mean better aging. It means delayed collapse. For years, your skin looks resilient. Then collagen declines, and when it does, it drops hard: deeper wrinkles, heavier under-eye bags, more dark spots showing up all at once.
Most men were never taught to get ahead of this. Women were. And by the time the signs show up, you're playing catch-up.
Particle Face Cream was built precisely for this. One 6-in-1 formula engineered for men's skin — reduces eye bags, dark spots, and wrinkles, restores firmness, hydrates deeply, and revives dull tone. No complicated routine. Over 1,000,000 men already use it. Try it risk-free with a 30-day money-back guarantee.
